OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

We got the questionnaire we sent back from our son yesterday. Some highlights:
* Food is not bad. Chicken and fish dishes are pretty good. The BBQ is awful (what else would you expect from a boy from Kansas City?)
* The boots are nice, and the dress shoes they just received are the comfiest he has ever worn.
* He's been going to church each week. Missed being at his church for Easter.
* Racks are comfortable enough (a little short), but he keeps getting woke up in the middle of the night with other recruits asking him questions about the watch.
* He thinks they've lost 4 guys out of the division so far. There are a couple of other recruits from our general area. No females in DIV 183.
* How does it feel to make your bed every day? "WEIRD!"
There was a lot more. Thanks to whoever it was that posted the suggestions for the questionnaires. Given their limited time to write, it is an easy way to get a lot of information back from them.
He said he had made a friend with this one guy from Indiana.
Three weeks from today we load up the car and head to Chicago! -

I ordered mine yesterday. The theme on the back is Davey Jones' locker. I was told the colors are mostly blue, black and red.

Our daughter received a letter from her brother yesterday - she was very happy to hear from him. It was short, but he said the division was working together better now and they had won two flags - one for athletics and one for inspections. They had another test coming up this week. He said it was 19 days until PIR so we're thinking he wrote it on Sunday.
Two weeks from today, gang! -

Has anyone heard when our recruits will do their Battlestation 21 event? I sure would like to be home the next day to get the phone call. I missed our son's call this afternoon - but he did call our house next and my husband was home. It was nice that his dad got to talk to him once too.

I also got a call this afternoon - we probably talked a good 15 or so minutes then he had to hang up to call his girlfriend. He sounded good said they are all doing good and he really wants to eat....lol He says he is still hungry....He seemed to think, short of anything really bad happening, that they were all in line to graduate. They got a shot today - one of those big ones that hurt like hell he says! :)
When I asked about Battle stations he said it wasn't scheduled until Wednesday before PIR - I asked him again thinking I had misunderstood - but he still said Wednesday - so maybe next week? I don't know - I can't imagine they would wait until the Wednesday before graduation.....? Anyone else heard anything?
He has been on light duty cause something happened to his foot/heel....he said he has been going to PT daily and asked to be released but the therapist says not yet....Perhaps tomorrow. He did say that he and alot of the guys bought the inserts for their boots and running shoes and that has really made a difference.
He said he now has his dress uniforms - all tailored and looking very good!! (Conceited kid!) He says he likes the blues much better than the whites - they were hoping they would be able to wear the blues at PIR but I told him that I had read that whites would begin on May 1st....He was disappointed - says blues look much better.
It is cold there - but the pea coat keeps him warm.
I told him if there is someone in his division who won't have family attending, that he is welcome to invite him along with whatever we end up doing - he thought perhaps he had someone in mind....I had read about this idea when I first starting ready N4M's and thought it was a great idea.
Hopefully you all got a phone call or perhaps a letter this week with some information to share.....Only 2 weeks to go and they will officially be 'sailors'....I am so looking forward to the PIR and Chicago and the magnificent mile....:) -

We got a nice long call yesterday as well. He ran through the upcoming schedule very fast, but just ahead were Damage Control, Firefighting I and II, a third test, the Confidence (aka Gas) Chamber was next Friday and Battlestations was on Wednesday 5/5.
He said the group was doing well, they had won something like 4 flags by now and were getting high scores on inspections and the like. The division really started coming together when they did the marlinspike training.
He says he is eating constantly and still losing weight! He passed his PFA and was very happy with that. He was a little worried about the run but made time easily. The Chief is dangling some carrots in front of them if they do well on some upcoming inspections - things like getting to buy a soda at the NEX.
Uniform-wise, he said they would be wearing their dress whites for PIR and with us the rest of Friday and then on Saturday and Sunday they would be wearing their peanut butters.
All in all he sounded more upbeat and excited than any time since he left. We can hardly wait the next two weeks to see him and hear all the stories. -

Thanks for sharing your phone call info - always good to hear other kids perspectives.. I guess I didn't 'misunderstand' about the Battle Stations day - I will already be on the plane to Chicago or maybe even in Chicago when he calls to tell me he is a sailor! (I am firm in my belief I will get that call - ok so I am hoping I get that call since I will already be there :) I leave Louisiana at 8am - arrive in Chicago at 1pm so hopefully I will have a message waiting for me when I arrive!
Terrence told me the division had won 2 ribbons - one for marksmanship (I believe) and can't recall the 2nd reason...winning these ribbons really impressed him and he was so proud of himself and his division. He says they are 'one'. And he seemed delighted to be able to buy the ribbons - about the only thing they can buy at the exchange :)
LOL - bet these young men never thought getting a soda would be such a big deal! But what a treat for them.....:) Hope it happens for them! -
