Hello,

My Son is an NMCB 18 DET 0718 TO GULFPORT IN MARCH AND THEN ON TO AFGHAN. I would really appreciate anyone who could advise me with what to get him or any events that I can attend to help with the transition of his deployment. Any information would be so helpful.

Thank you so much,

Donna

My daughter is in NMCB 18. She is a reservist in Portland Oregon. She is training in Gulfport and will deploy to Afghan.
My daughter's dad and her USNA brother will see her during the Family Day in Gulfport.

May God bless all of our Military men and women! They are true Heroes!

Hi Kathy....My daughter is also a reservist based out of Everett, WA. She is in Det 0418. Which detachment is your daughter in? She wanted her boyfriend to be with her for Family Day in Gulfport so her dad nor I will be going. I did go to her family day in Everett though, before she left for Gulfport.
Hi,
I am not sure what Det she is in. I guess I should know.
I will text her and find out.

Could my daughter take a bible with her?
I'm sure she can, Kathy. My daughter is taking hers. I think Donna was just referring to things being sent through the mail.
Hi mom's. I am a mom of a Seabee too. Michael will be in for 12 years in July. He is in VA now wanting to get back to Gulfport in a bad way. He has been to Iraq also. Back when things were still real bad in 05-06. not they they are great now. Was due to leave in Nov but a motorcycle accident left him busted up pretty bad. I live on the West coast. Vancouver WA so being about to attend anything wasnt in the cards. I heard mixed reviews about family day. All I could send him with was all my love and prayers. Of course he hated it there. There wasnt much contact at all. Not sure if that has changed much. I still have the email wishing me a happy birtday and said he would call when the phone went back up. While he was there care package were the best thing you could do. I got a vacuum sealer and made brownies and cookies. The homemade stuff was always a hit. He was there over there duruing the holiday season so it was really tough.
Hey, Donna,
I didn't know you started this discussion before. You should have told me!
I am the one who got to see and hold Donna's grandboy! A very cutie!

It is good to meet some of the mom's who have Seabees in this battalion here on N4M. Some of us mom's have Seabees doing their regular Seabee jobs in Gulfport and then in Afghan. And some of us mom's have Seabees doing the CSE (convoy security elements) job and this is very scary! I am one of the moms with a CSE and so is Donna.
Unfortuantely tho, our sons got separated from being in the same convoy truck (MRAP) and are in different MRAP now. :(

It is hotter than h*ell and muggy as h*ll in Gulfport right now! My son never complains but he sure is right now. They have never ever sweated so badly that their sweat smells like pee! Gross! Ureal!

I hear from my son just about every single day. He sends text and all kinds of info of what they are doing. I love INFORMATION!
The combat training they are receiving sounds very good and I am sooooooooooo glad.

So it will be cool for us here to hang together as they go thru the deployment to Afghan. So lets do keep in touch here and via email PLEASE!
Well my son should be happy his wife and son flew out yesterday to go see him so happy for them also found out he is in the AIR DET
Hi. I am also the mother of a NMCB 18 soldier. My daughter is there in Afghan too. This is her second deployment.( Iraq last time.) Nice to meet you. There are two things I can tell you that have been great for my daughters battalion to receive from home. One is Propel for water. And the other is the cold packs that you crush to activate. I also send the heat packs. Just in case they have a muscle ache.
