First off, Greetings!! I'm glad to be here and thank you for your sons/daughters service and for their families for everything you do. :)
Here's the story: May of 2009 my oldest son 21 at the time signed for active duty in the Army, which totally confused me, because he had been talking about the Navy for about 3 years. He was scheduled to go to Boot camp August 31st, Sometime between May and August he had a cow (he works for a dairy) kick him in the knee and a couple of months after that he had a cement feed bunk fall on that same leg. Needless to say it was a little swollen. He showed up at MEPS in August and to say the least they sent him back home until November 09. He was still having trouble with his knee in November and they "labeled" him with chronic knee pain and "permnantly medically disqualified" and sent him home. We did have him go and have an MRI on his knee and there is nothing physically wrong with his knee, just really deep tissue bruising. He wasn't completely crushed about this at the time, he figured he would go to college but wasn't exactly sure for what?? He decided on Criminal Justice and started with the University of Phoenix. He found out that school online WASN'T for him, but he is still plugging along with it. The hours at his job he doesn't have time to go to classes at a school. He has been thinking about the service again. He visited the Army recruiter again and he supposedly sent Cody's medical records to MEPS, but that 4-5 weeks ago. As I mentioned before, Cody had talked about the Navy for over 3 years to this point, so he went and talked to the Navy recruiter. The Navy recruiter had put an email into MEPS to ask where Cody's medical information was, to this point (almost 2 weeks) we haven't heard anything back.
So my question is if anybody has any experience with Medical Waivers, please help. Cody is sitting on the sidelines waiting and stressing because he's not sure if he should go and find another job, which he really needs to do if he isn't going to go into the service. Cody does live on his own and is a responsible kid.
His father and I have tried to be very supportive of his decision(s). And I admit I probably have been pushing him too much to go into the service. I have backed completely off from this as I've read in your forum already. If he's not committed to the service then it doesn't matter if I want him to go. He will be the one serving, not me!! Thank you all for this!!!
Thank you all for "listening" to me. If anybody has any advice or suggestions, I'm all ears!
Deanna
