Coming Home For the First TIme! Help on airfare please

Hello My step son is coming home for memorail day weekend. First time since he left for bootcamp in february. Does anyone have suggestions on Military discounts? Tried southwest and flights I need are booked for Military discount. Is there a special travel agent for the Military?

Is he in A School I didn't realize they could get leave right now.
My son is coming home to Orlando for Memorial Day weekend on a trip through MWR and he is waiting for Candidate school to start. I hope he got permission and has the days available! He's been pretty by the book,so I'm going to guess "yes" to both. :)

He thought about taking a plane but Southwest doesn't go to P'cola it goes to Panama City which I think is like 1-2 hours away. They charge only $75 each way to Orlando. Other flights were $255 roundtrip for the lowest fare. Apparently getting a good military discount is like looking for a needle in a haystack. He is taking a bus home.
My son soon discovered that "military discount" means "probably more than regular fare"......the airlines aren't about to be at all accommodating when it comes to our military unfortunately. My son always goes to Orbitz to start checking on fares. He likes them because they'll update any flight changes to his cell phone. I think Southwest usually has good fares, as long as they fly where you want to go. Unfortunately Pensacola isn't one of them. My son has flown into Mobile and then bussed it to P'cola.
my son used military fare once and it saved him 9.00 for round trip with US Air. So, it really doesn't save a lot.
Hi thank you for your replies. He is in Pre-buds and he did get approved for the leave for memorial day weekend. I guess since it is the Holiday and flights are booked up already is the reason I am getting higher airfares than we got in April.
The Military discount on american airlines was about $37 cheaper. I thought maybe there was a Military plane he can hop on to come home.My Uncle was in the airforce and I thought I remember him saying he did something like that when he wasn't traveling with family. I will tell him to check with the ITT and keep searching, thank you!
The military flight to "hop on" is Space Available, empty seats on military and military charter flights. There's a waiting list and categories, and it can take days to get a flight. NOT the best use of leave days. I've done it, and I never recommend it. People with orders have priority, people on emergency leave, and so on. He'd be above retirees and family members, yes, dependents can travel that way. There are many people "hopping", usually enough that there are no seats left for him. Besides, there has to be a flight leaving from a base near him and landing at a base near you, then going back in the same timeframe. Doesn't happen very often!

Thank you for the information! I got him a flight on American. I couldn't get a military discount the flights are all booked for the holiday weekend. Airfare is a little steep but at least we get to see him for the weekend. Thank you! I appreciate all the help.
Hi ok great, I will ask him about that. Thanks so much for your help!
