Question #1, Grad & Go:  My son Brandon is graduating in less than 3 weeks.  His last letter said he "thinks" he is a Grad & Go.  We decided to book our flights from Thurs to late Sunday regardless, because it doesn't sound like he knows for sure.  Coming out from Northern Calif (near Oregon border).  Question #2 - Liberty leave:  I read on the Navy's site that they must be back to their ship on base by 9pm on Fri & Sat and 8pm on Sunday (and to give them a 1/2 hr to walk to their ship).  But it didn't say when we could pick them up on Sat & Sun morning.  Any know?  New Mom to this site and my youngest son is the first to join the military - so I am still new to all of this!  BTW - Sobe is my son's nickname and he'll get a kick out of me using it for this site.

I forgot to ask my first question! When do they know "for sure" that they are a Grad & Go?? Do they fly out that Friday afternoon or on Saturday - or does it depend?? He is going to A-School in Pensacola, FL. Thanks to anyone who can answer or who can just give me some comfort! The thought of going all the way out there just to hug him and watch him board a bus for the airport is breaking my heart - but worth the time and money to do it.
It is my understanding that they do not know for sure until they get orders thier fial week in BC. My son's PIR is next Thursday God willing and I will not know what is up until I get to GL for PIR. He cold have hours or days or part days or overnight. It depnds on where A school is -- locally more time -- far away maybe a fe hours ad then off to the airport.
It must depend on where they are going. I got a letter on Wednesday in which my son said he is Grad n Go. He leaves in the wee hours of Saturday morning. :-( But i can go to the airport & hang with him until he leaves. Me at 3 a.m.? Yeah I can do it!!
Jaime - I fly a lot for my job - and it used to be that people dressed up, but now they dress for comfort. Who cares what we look like at 3 am?? Mothers are always beautiful to their kids, no matter what we look like! Izaac will LOVE the fact that you are sitting with him at the USO in O'Hara! You might even see me there - with no make-up, or even worse... smeared make-up from the night before!! I hope I find out soon when Brandon goes. I have your cell phone, I may be calling you to help locate a good coffee shop at the airport!
Ah, but you haven't seen my bed hair. Maybe I'll bring his Navy baseball cap.
O'Hare has lots of Starbucks; but i don't know what time they open. Even O'Hare closes up at night. Except for the USO apparently.

After you join, post a comment - jakesmon is trying to print her parking pass as we speak. If any one else is having a problem (using Internet Explorer), try downloading Mozilla Firefox (it's free) and try accessing the navy.mil site again.
BunkerBee, how do I find others from eastern IA, western IL?
It requires a little detective work. Click on members (on above menu bar), input IL (then IA) in search box, click on the little round icon. You'll get all the members in IL and IA. If you have specific cities, input that along with the state. For your convenience.

Here are the links to IA and IL groups.

Or you can go to the 06/04/2010 group site, click on "view all" under neath the member photos - it'll show where each member is from.
Good luck.
