hi Cheryl
My son was gone about a week when i got a welcome letter from the navy with his address and a letter from my son. Just alittle advise contact his recruiter they should be able to give you his address within 3 days of his leaving and start writing him as soon as you can the letters he will get from you will get him through the hard days. I usually get a letter from my son once a week. He has been gone 4 weeks now and I miss him so much. Just remember they wanna hear good things from home and lots of letters good luck to you and your son.
Hi Cheryl, I'm Elaine. My son Brian is graduating 3/7/08, so he's been at Great Lakes for a while now. You'll get a letter after about a week and a half. They can only write on Sundays. I usually get my letter on Wednesdays and my daughter reads them to me while I'm driving to church. So I'm blessed twice on Wednesdays. LOL

Hang in there....I promise time will help ease the sadness. Pray and keep the faith...God will get your through your first weeks....

Elaine
Hi Cindy, welcome. Has he had a chance to call home yet? My boy doesn't leave until September.
Hi Cindy
My boy is there and went on 2/21 as well.
Yes I do know his ship and div I have written him 6 times already. ship 09 div-153. (criptologis tech) we are sure if he will go to Pensacola or stay at GL yet. I received his clothes this week and that was hard. Sleeping is hard for me and trying to get through a day is hard. I heard it gets better. I miss him terribly. I found a website that explains what they go through each week. ( not sure if its such a great thing, their first week is difficult and stressful) But it gets better as they go on.
Hi everyone, I was so happy to find this website today. I'm not sure if I'm doing the threads right here because I thought I had posted to this one before. So here I go. My son Kevin left for bootcamp on 1/28. He is 21. I raised him as more or less, a single parent and we have always been very close. He would call me everyday no matter where he was or where I was. He is a great kid and I had never had any trouble with him. He had a high school girlfriend and they broke up about 6 months ago. He started having some growing pains. Not sure where he was going in life and what he wanted to do. His dad and I are both prior Navy - that is how we met. He has never given me any indication that he would ever join. And he is an only child and used to getting his way - lol. He told me the end of December that he was thinking of joining. I was shocked and very proud and happy at the same time. He did his testing and called and told me he joined for 6 years and was leaving in two weeks! He graduates 3/21 and I have had very little contact from him. I find myself having panic attacks at night when I think about him and if he is ok and the fact that I can't contact him. I have to calm myself down. It is so nice to know that I am not the only one who feels this way! Nice to meet you all :)
Jawona,
My boy left on 2/21 . Boy it has been the hardest 7 days of my life. I have had no contact as of yet and am holding on till I get a letter or phone call. I to am having a hard time sleeping and understand your panic attacks. Sometimes the pain is hard to bear. So far I have good days and bad. I go on this website alot and that helps also writing him letters everyday helps. He is my only boy and letting him go is hard. If we stick together we will get through this. Good luck and welcome. Linda
Thanks Linda. You should get your first letter soon. My son left on a Monday - I got his box on Friday (and of course cried all the way to my second job that afternoon) and I got the form letter on Monday with his address and a little note from him that let me know he was doing ok. Kev is my only too and we are so close. I know he his having as hard of a time as I am not being able to talk to me. He cried and held me tight when I told him goodbye and at the end of his first phone call i could tell he was crying too. I do have is graduation date but I have not heard anything lately and can feel that anxiety coming back. Good luck. I am prior military, my boyfriend is in the military so I am very proud of Kev - but it is still hard!
Hi Pat,
I called the recruiter and he was surprised that Cameron didn't call. My guess is he was exhausted, not realizing he couldn't call for a couple of weeks. We are in Syracuse NY so we will be flying, just waiting for his graduation date so I can make reservations. I looked on the website and it tells you where to stay eat all kinds of great information. I think these weeks will crawl by. He's my only boy and I am having a hard time letting go. My oldest daughter is 27 and she was so needy I was ready to let her go. He is not needy but was very much a homebody. So I am sure all this is quite a shock to him. Well thats good at least.
its 59 days from the time thay leave
The pamplet we got said Steve couldn't bring his cell phone to basic, is that changed now? Some Moms said they got the address in the cloths box and others said they had to call to get it. Do you know which?

Thanks for any input
Shell
It was my impression they could not bring cell phones either - and in fact the pamphlet that I got about graduation states that they cannot have electronic devices on RTC so even at graduation you cannot give them their cell phones or laptops until they depart RTC to go to their advanced training. I did not get anything in my box either. I searched all over that box for a note or something from him. I think it made it so much worse to not get anything but all his stuff back. I got the information letter with his address the following Saturday or Monday I think.
