Our son just left for Great Lakes on monday 5-23. We haven't even recieved his box or mailing address yet. We've been looking through the forums here a little, trying to cope with him being gone, and looking for any information we can get ahead of time for when we can go see him graduate. We're hoping to spend as much time with him as possible after graduation, but are kind of worried that he could be a grad and go sailor. If he is a grad and go sailor, how much ahead fo time can we expect to find out? I'd hate to make reservations ahead of time only to find that we wont get to spend any time with our son before he has to head out for the airport.

It was bitter sweet but very glad I went. Make sure you take your son's cell phone CHARGED COMPLETELY UP. It was the only way we knew what was going on with him. They can have their cell phone right after PIR liberty is called and he comes to give you a big HUG. That is when you give it to him because he will be off within minutes if he is grad and go. GOOD luck. It will be fine. We spent the weekend in Chicago without him but it was OK. The navy pier is great and lots of site seeing.
Thanks for sharing, now you have me tearing up. my goodness, it is really a roller coaster. I will have John's cell phone charged and ready to go.
By the way, I didn't get my son's box until he had been at boot camp for 5 weeks!
My son will probably be grad and go, its ok I will enjoy spending time with him at the airport. I'll take any time I can get. JD is going to be a MA, which his A-school will be in Texas.
ok I sent mines that way also.
wow thank you the next set of letters we will add the street
I got a letter today. my sons address on my envelope was
SR last name, first name
Division 936, Ship 06
Recruit Training Command
3510 Illinois Street
...Great Lakes, Il.
60088-3119
the letters I sent had everything but the street I hope he receives our letters.
I received my sons box with his personal belongings and the Navy form letter regarding boot camp graduation separately but in the same day (5/24) The envelope with the grad info had his return address and that is when we started to send him letters. My whole family has been writing Sean but we were the only ones to receive his first letter. He actually sent us two letters in one envelope. I also sent him postage stamps twice and in his last letter he asked us to send him more stamps. They really don't get a chance to go to the Navy Exchange for postage stamps. I also sent him a writing tablet and envelopes. You are aloud to at least send that while in boot camp. The olden days of letter writing. No cell phones or computers. LOL

I am so looking forward to Sean's graduation and my supervisor & manager are giving me a hard time because it is the same week as the 4th of July and we have max'd out the amount of people for the week. They gave me off July 8th but not the 9th. I told them I am taking it anyway. I don't know when I am going to see him again so I am going. If I don't have a job when I get back OH WELL. I asked my manager if her son was serving in the military and protecting our country would she miss his. She said yes because we have a business to run. I don't care I am still going.
There is a group discussion going on under May 26th. He is probally with that group. Join us, it really helps. I miss mine too.
We finally recieved the form letter on tuesday the 1st. No box yet, but the important thing is we got his address and were able to send out the already written letters for him. He's in ship 13, div 247, and he'll be graduating on july 23'rd along side your recruits. Now that we have communications open, hopefully we'll hear from him soon! Time to start planning our trip to Chicago for PIR. Hopefully we'll be able to spend time with him over the weekend before he heads off to Sub School.
my son is sailor drive too. The 1st 4 letters i sent was the address recruiter gave me it had no street address. Hope my son is writing me today, hope he received all the letters. He is probably like my mom is so crazy, anyway to get at him, as his dad would say. Well, hey I'm mom, we find a way! LOL
