Welcome, thanks for joining us, we are a small group so far so its nice to have two new people join us today. My son decided to shave his head a month before he left for bootcamp, he always hated having to fix his hair so he was looking forward to having the shaved head. LOL
Hi pepecola- glad to see you found our group and welcome. The guys all look the same with the shaved head and clean faces. No mustaches either. Sorry about the missed call, I know how sad that can be. Are you planning on going to graduation? If so, I want to make sure you know that it is on Friday the 9th, not Saturday the 10th. That will make a big difference on arrangements. Hang in there, 29 days and a wake up. Yea!!
Thanks his first letter said July 10th but his third letter said July 9th! Good thing I got that corrected before flying out. I plan on going from July 8th til the 11th to check out Chicago with my family. I am definitely counting the day. My son hated haircuts. He wrestled in high school and because of his hair his nickname was CAVEMAN. I'm glad that now he doesn't have to the option to grow hair like that again. LOL
Glad I found this site.
When I talked to my son Sunday he told me that he had been sick, really sick, he said he waited to the last min before asking to go to medical... he had a BAD sinus infection that was causing total hearing loss in his right ear. He also said that most of the guys there were sick with something, I am sure its being in such a close area and working out hard and little sleep... On the site for my other son (div 229) they said that some one from that Div (229) had to go to the VA he was so sick. Has anyone else heard of the guys getting sick?
I got another phone call today!! we only were able to talk for about 10 minutes though but definitely better than nothing. He didn't say anything about everyone being sick but now I am worried and am going to ask in my next letter...
HALF WAY THERE EVERYONE!!!
I got the short phone call today also, He sounded much better today, or at least alot less tired than he did on Sun, he said he passed the first academic test and that the div earned a flag for their div to carry, I would assume since he said they only had like 4 fail. Both phone calls we got it has been really hard to hear him at times but I'm pretty sure that is what he said. He did say alot of the guys are sick, said he has been lucky so far to only have a little bit of a sore throat and runny nose but not the fevers and coughs that other guys have had. He said tomorrow they get their high and tight hair cuts. He said today is day 3-1 for them. Next week is their 2nd PFA test and I think he said their next academic test will be in 2 weeks. The rest of the call was just mom son stuff, we actually packed in quite a bit into the 10 minutes before I heard the guy come in yelling at them!
Got my letters today! Wednesdays are my new favorite day of the week...It sounds like they are doing good and keeping busy. I am hoping for another phone call but he didn't say anything about it in his letters.
We got a letter today also. Was a nice surprise since the last one came on Thur so I was not expecting it until tomorrow. Was a real short letter so I have nothing major to share with everyone this time, sorry. Only 3 weeks left, we are soo excited! It seems to be going by much faster now. That first 3 weeks before the first letters and phone call seemed to take forever now I feel like I'm running out of time.
No call this Sunday I stayed home all day! Did anyone get a call? I have missed his two calls since his first one the day he got there back on May 17th. I think it's kind of funny that my son can even write letters. I like to think his letters are like a giant text message. I remember his letter last week that said they would be doing fire drills this week. He said the food is good which is nice to know they are eating well. We are getting our airline tickets this week. I am glad it's going by faster now. Hope you are all hanging in there! Share what you know! Anyone gotten anything on graduation? Do we know if there liberty time goes on for the weekend? overnights? I read that depending on what levels they earn in boot camp they can earn the opportunity to stay overnight during liberty time with their family?
No phone call for us this past weekend either, my husband was really hoping for one on Fathers day but no such luck. I was hoping for a letter today but didn't get that either, Hopefully tomorrow.
I was doubly disappointed today as well! No letter like normal and I didn't get a call on Fathers day either...I really wanted to tell him he was going to be a father in a week or two. Like you said though, hopefully tomorrow. I've been reading that other divisions are starting to send out letters 3 days a week now, maybe that will happen for us too!
I guess my son did write to my mother in law this past week so there was a letter. I am staying at the Springhill Suite in Waukegan- rooms with a sofa bed for a about 100 bucks a night. They give you a $20 Target gift card too. It's about 5 miles from the Naval camp a short 10 minute drive. In case anyone was looking for a place. Does anyone know if there is a dress code? My hubs wondered if you have to wear a tie? About 12 days to go, I cannot wait to see my handsome boy! Does anyone know if liberty time is only after graduation? Can they also have liberty time on Sat? and Sun?
