Is there anyone else out there whose son/daughter is leaving for boot camp on July 22nd?  If so I would love to talk with you.  I sure am hoping that we have done everything we need to do for the big day!!!

Oh yeah, they LIVE for mail time! They don't get letters at first because of processing and switching barracks and stuff, but then they'll get all at once, so it's a good idea to number them! He wrote me in one letter towards his last few weeks that he wanted me to send him 20 per week! I made a point to send him 20 by the end of boot camp, and had to even bring a few to graduation, as he wouldn't have gotten them in time if I had mailed them! Three of them arrived at boot camp after he had left and he ended up getting them in Pensacola, but they really do love their mail!
The distance and length of time away is probably the most difficult part, but he will be kept SO busy and by receiving letters, hopefully it'll feel like it goes more quickly!
Aaron will also go to A school in San Antonio. For MA?

Maybe he and Chris will become friends either during bc or A-school because Chris will be in San Antonio as well.
My son will also be in San Antonio For MA. You and Bobbie are the first I have seen here thats loved one will be going there. He shipped out 7/14/10 and his PIR is 9/10/10. I understand how you feel, we are all nervous of the unknown but all will be fine. My son is older (that worries me the most) and was a police officer before and I think this has me more concerned than when he went to the police academy ( he was younger!) Their strength will surprise you, mentally and physically. My son loves the Navy and wishes he did this years ago.
hurleyl8dy- Chris left on the 22nd-he was sooo nervous about going to bbot camp when he got on the plane. When he landed in chicago he said he wasn't feeling well. I know that he is very strong and that he is going to do well. But that doesn't make it any easier. The hardest part is the waiting. I think it will be way better when boot camp is over and then he can go to San Antonio. Then at least we will be able to talk. He sounded very tired when he gave us last call once he arrived at Great Lakes. Haven't received the box or the letter yet!!!
Between you and me Bobbie (and the world!), when I received my sons box, I left it on the kitchen chair with all his stuff in it so he could be a part of the family. Sounds crazy I guess being he hasn't lived at home for almost nine years and maybe only saw him every three weeks. I've yet to wash his clothes, kinda gross but It seems to comfort me. when his form letter came with the recruits comments I was so excited to see just the few lines he wrote. He said he was having fun and it all still felt like a dream to him. Hopefully it is still a dream and not a nightmare! LOL
That doesn't sound crazy. Chris has never been away from home for more than a week at the time so this is a complete shock to his system. After being able to talk to him pretty much everyday for the last 19 years it is like I am in complete shock. He did send me a text when he landed in chicago and told me he wrote me a note and put it in his bag. So I have a little something extra coming home in my box that apparently most moms don't get. I hope Chris is finding it fun. I do know that Chris is looking forward to A-school in San Antonio.
Hurleyl8dy, How long did it take for you to receive your letter? I love the fact that you left his box on the kitchen chair. That's not crazy at all. There is no hurry washing the clothes in my book. Not sure when I'll ever wash Joes. :)
I agree. Don't know that my husband will let me put them at the table but I don't think he will make me wash them in a hurry...

Karen--I got Chris' phone call around 1220 Friday morning. He sounded tired but I think he is going to be ok.
My daughter left on the 19th from Wasilla!
