Well poo, I was going off their website. I will call.
Ok, Navy Lodge does not have a shuttle, but Taxi is $4-$7 to PIR. The hotel is 1.5 miles away from PIR, so I think we will just leave very early and just drive. All rooms have microwave and refirgerators, but no pool at this location.
I called Navy Lodge. They said they do NOT provide a shuttle. Quality Inn does. That is where My husband and I are staying.
I just booked our room at the Springhill Suites by Marriott in Waukegan/Gurnee. It is only 5 miles from the base and the cost is $79 per night (calling direct) for the military discount which ended up being less expensive than AAA. The suites are a nice size and it looks like a nice place to hang out. After reading a lot of the post from those who have already made it through PIR, we all need to expect to do a LOT of just hanging around with our boys (and girls), which is fine with me, so keep that in mind when booking your hotel. This one has a pool, spa, continental breakfast and various lounges inside and out. I CAN'T WAIT! Rose Ann
I have booked the Ramada Inn, they give a discount when you use the code , and have free shuttle
We opted to stay at the La Quinta about 8 miles from base. 1 mile from Six Flags is my motivation right now. :)
I booked at the Red Carpet Inn, $49 a night for 1 person 1 bed. (for mom and dad )$59 for 2 people 1 bed. they had a cool family suite but it was booked already. and its 1 mile from base, with shuttle, but that way the kid can just walk back to us after graduation, if mom and dad dont get the rental car. Im not expecting the Hilton by paying $49 a night, but after paying for my tickets, my son's greyhound ticket, hotel and such. gotta save a penny somewhere.
joshsmom, Good choice. We stayed at The Red Carpet Inn for my sons PIR. Nice and clean and friendly staff. Next door they have a Flanigans Restaurant with a good buffet breakfast. Your sailor will enjoy eating real eggs (not powdered) and non watered down OJ. The waitress was very nice and helpful and gave my son a name and # of a cab company in GL because he was staying for A school. They have a shuttle but we drove. About 1 mile from base like you said and to get on base was not bad at all. The lines go pretty fast because they are very well organized. After all it is the navy. We didn't spend much time in the room because my son wanted to see things and went into Chicago and ate at Gino's East. Very good Chicago pizza if interested. I was just poking around the site and saw your post and wanted to reply. Hope you don't mind. Have a good trip and enjoy PIR. We received the DVD we ordered of PIR and watched it last night. It was awesome all over again.
thanks for the tips, and the good reviews and i cant wait.........I was a bit worried about the price, sometimes you get what u pay for. i wanted the bi-level room, so we all could be together.
i got some relief today, got my van sold, and the airlines is running deals, and my baby boy is coming up on the greyhound and mom and dad are coming. things are coming together, and to celebrate, i got a anchor tattoo, woohoo. to commemorate my time in and now my sons time.
