My son started OCS on September 12.  I have not heard from him, but based on the other discussions, I am thinking that he is class 03-11.  Anyone else in this same class?   This is my first time as a Navy mom.  Any information is greatly appreciated.  thanks.

I am curious about Thanksgiving too. I am hoping they get a day or two off because i am planning on meeting up with my LO if they get liberty.
There is very little off-base liberty until the last couple of days they are at OCS. My LO was at OCS last Thanksgiving, and, while they did not stick to the complete routine, you could pretty much just think of Thanksgiving as "Thursday". I am not trying to sound mean here, but what we as families need to understand is that while our LO is at OCS they are the Navy's, in every possible sense of the word. It is a way of training us as well as training them. Any privilege is earned, and can be rescinded at a moment's notice. Even those last couple of days at OCS, permission must be granted to leave the base.
Think of OCS as a "mini-deployment", as when our LO is on a ship, and communication is limited, and visits are pretty much impossible.
Thanks for the info. I know their priority is there, I am just selfish and want to be able to see my BF as much as I can. I just miss him a lot :( He was also saying how he didn't know if they would get Thanksgiving off or not, he couldn't get a straight answer out of anyone which is why I asked if someone who know someone at OCS a while ago and if they got the time off but just werent told. Thanks for all the help:)
Again, I wasn't trying to be mean, and no, you're not selfish. What you'll find is the abrupt cutoff of all communications is the toughest part to get used to. And honestly, they are SO busy 18-20 hours a day, they don't have much to left to give in the way of maintaining a relationship. The good news - OCS does come to an end! and the reunion will be sweet! More good news is that wherever he goes for his next training, you should be able to visit and comunicate often.
Oh and also, does anyone know what time on sunday we can visit? i am a short drive away and would really like to visit. Thanks!
when its approved and they can have visits on Sundays 730-11am --church time, but you boyfriend has to make sure your name is at the gate and also they can start having visits.
Thanks for the info NavyGF. I will pass it on to my daughter. Lucky you living so close! Wish I could answer some of your questions. I really do not know the answers. Hopefully they will approve your facebook request soon! Take care everyone.
I am wanting to head to RI to visit on a Sunday, i don't know who lives on the East Coast and wants to visit as well but it would be awesome to carpool. Let me know if anyone is interested :)
Hello all,
I am a navy GF of a member of the class of 03-11 also. I was wondering if anyone else besides Jaime1019 has heard from their LO? Letter, phone call, etc?
MadamP & Suzmom,

My daughter has not heard anything from her boyfriend yet. He is in class 03-11 as well. Have you two heard anything yet?
I hope she hears something very soon. It hurts me so to see her hurting and wondering what is going on. I keep reassuring her that no news is good news.
Michelle,
I haven't heard anything, but I have been sending letters, and they made it as far as I know so I am assuming that these first 3 weeks are like he said, the hardest! I am thinking that by the 3rd or 4th week I should hear something, based on what I have read. And yes no news is good news, so tell your daughter not to worry ;-)
Hi, I got one call on Sept 13 for 5 minutes. That is all that I have heard. And yes, I am sending letters, so he is kept up to date on what is going on at home and also giving lots of encouragement.
