Hi all!  This is a discussion I've started for the families with recruits in Ship 2, Div 952.  Of course anyone can join, but this will help those of us in this specific group get to know each other.

Hi- We love to drive over to Cedar Rapids sometimes and hit the half-price books. Plus when our son wrestled, they had tons of tournments there. Great town for sure. Did you receive a letter today? We didn't- hopeful for tomorrow. What do you do in Florida? I spent a year at University of South Florida when I was 18 - I loved it there in Tampa. I had so much fun that they asked me to get it together! HAHAHAH. I teach 4th grade now- I told my kids about Travis leaving and one kid said " Well- you know he's going to learn a lot of bad words don't you? I said " really?" He said "Yah, my Dad says "cut the crap" all the time and he was in the MARINES. " I laughed for a couple of days over that one. Keeping my fingers crossed for you all to get letters tomorrow! Including us. :)
No letter yesterday, hopefully today! Down here in Florida I am an executive assistant, but what I do is enjoy the Florida winters! I live about an hour south of Tampa, and you just can't beat the weather in my eyes. I was not meant for cold weather so my three years in Iowa was a true test! I love the story about the bad words! My husband is a former Marine and I wish he only said "cut the crap!" lol....
HI! We did get a letter today! I wasn't sure he knew how to write one! HA He sounds good- he said it's rought but he's good. No date yet for PIR though- did you get one? Envious of your winters- I'm already dreading recess duty this year!
Travis said he was the youngest one in the division- he's 18- will be 19 while there. That was interesting.
Charlie is 18 as well, won't turn 19 until next June. You said you are Ship2 Div 952 right? Maybe they just don't know each other... I haven't gotten any letters yet. His girlfriend texted me yesterday and said she had one waiting at home...she goes to college and today is her birthday so I'm guessing he sent one to her house since he knew she was going to be there. Of course I got EXTREMELY jealous, but my husband reminded me that we do live farther away then she does so perhaps I'll have something today....I sure hope so!
I'm in the same boat! My son's girlfriend goes to the University of Iowa and he called her from the airport and not us! I was so jealous too! HA. She's a nice girl, I really like her, but I'm not sure if she knows how much Travis won't be home anymore. Like never. I'll ask Travis if he knows Charlie in my next letter. We went to the high school football game last night and it was so WEIRD, not having Trav there to watch. It was a lot less anxious though- we could just enjoy the game. :) Mark is making reservations right now- we're going to stay at the Homewood Suites because Courtney is coming with us and we thought it would be awkward to all stay in one room.
and p.s. I hope you've gotten your letter yesterday or today. We got the form letter and Trav said on the bottom that he's going to be in trouble for language when they start running. Does that mean he's already "cussing like a sailor? " HAHAHAHA.
I was wondering where to stay. How far is Homewood Suites? Do they have a shuttle to the base?

I did get my letter yesterday. It was VERY short - going good, food sucks. He did say he's a flag bearer for the division which I thought was cool. He said he was going to try for Honor Guard so he can carry the flag at PIR.

Of course then he said to say hi to everyone, text his gf and tell her to start checking her campus mail, and how are the dogs!
The recruiter told me this is the ship and division my son is in. We have not received our letter yet either to confirm. But I'm assuming I'll be getting to know all of you over the coming weeks. I'm in southern Colorado. Starting to get chilly here, but beautiful this time of year. In another months we'll be wishing we were in Florida for sure. :)
HI Lori- we live in Iowa and last night was finally chilly after a long hot summer. But by Feb. we'll all be wishing to be in FLorida for sure!
I have to to say, I don't miss Iowa or mid-west winters one little bit! I'll trade the heat and humidity in the Florida summers for it any day! And we've got plenty of room so come on down! you may have to fight one of our dogs for sofa space though.... lol
So lost on here. I have a recruit on Ship 2 Div 952, PIR 11/12.
Don't be lost...you have come to the right place! Do you have a son, daughter, husband at GL? Have you gotten a letter or the box yet?

My son is also in this group, I just got my first letter from him today, but still haven't gotten the official form letter yet. You have joined a group of very supportive women! We are all here to help each other through the ups and downs and hope to get together with big hugs at PIR...
