Hi...my son is at Great Lakes now and other than a brief phone call I haven't heard anything from him. I'm just wondering if anyone has heard from their son or daughter about how things are going so far? My son might have written to his mom (we are divorced) but I haven't heard from him and I'm getting curious to hear how it's going. Any information would be great. I'm looking forward to talking to others Mom's and Dad's whose child is making this great journey with mine.

Thanks

Hi my son is on the same ship and division. We got a brief phone call on 9/11 because we missed his call on 9/7 and one letter last week. I'm sure you'll get a letter soon. You might want to type Questionnaires in the search box on this site and print off one of them. Send it with a self addressed stamped envelope. That way your son will only have to circle the correct answer and sent it back.

My son seems to be doing OK. He told me he NEVER wants to go to Medical again after all the shots he had to have. lol

He said the food is OK. He was surprised there were some guys in their 30's in their Division.
It was a really short letter. He told us he's keeping a log to he doesn't forget to tell us stuff at PIR on 10/29.
Thanks for the information. I got a phone call from my son that same day that you did. I'll try the questionnaire idea...it sure can't hurt and I'm running out of things to write to him anyway! If I hear anything I'll post and hopefully others will do the same.
One thing my son asked to have us write is news about what is going on in the world. He said they don't get ANY outside information. Also, there is another discussion for Ship 12 DIV 354 on this message board so check on that as well.

Talk to you soon : )
Hi, my son is also on Ship 12 Div 354. I also received the one phone call on 9/11. I feel that no news is good news, which is what I keep hearing - meaning graduation date is still good. He said his division is good at motivating each other. They've passed their swim tests. I received three letters (in one envelope) last week, and other than being upset that not many of his friends have written to him, it sounds like they're doing good. He said the yelling is not as bad as he expected. I'm going to send the questionnaire also. Any other good ideas? Someone had a link with a listing of what they can expect week to week, but now I can't find it. Anyone else seen that?
go to the search box at the upper right and put in ... boot camp weekly schedule.... a couple of listings showed up for me.. quite interesting....
I have also received the 2 calls and one letter last Thursday NO NEWS truly good news! One month 2 go!
Hey Sean's Dad,

I too am a divorced father and my son is in the same div as yours. I have only received one letter as well. It came last Thursday. My ex-wife received one too. I look forward to seeing you there and share the pride of our sons

Eric
I'll mention his name in my letters, haven't gotten a call yet :( but got 2nd letter (actually the first was fill in the blank and the letter to his girlfriend ;)..his girlfriend got 6!! LOL ..whatever makes em happy!! :) Hey Mr. Postman..look and see..is there a letter for me...Lol :)
There has not been much action on this board so I thought I would post.

My last letter was last Thursday and I expect another letter today or tomorrow. The Mantra: No news is good news still very much applies. I am looking forward to finding out how much time I will have with my sailor after PIR. I do know that he will be in A school for 2 weeks then off to the fleet for on the job training and then he can go for any job he wants. Those 3 green stripes on his arm will look sharp I am sure. My Andrew is an eagle scout and is an E3 right out of boot camp.I am looking forward to meeting all of you before/during PIR. The M&G at The Ramada should be fun!

Have a good day and don't worry because as my Mom told me long, long ago. "Worry is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do , but it doesn't get you anywhere"
Love your mom! I'm going to remember that saying : )
I'm also expecting a letter today or tomorrow and firmly believe that no news is good news. I'm going to miss everyone at the M&G though b/c I'll be getting in too late. Hopefully, there will be a lot of posts on here soon as we all get our letters this week (again-hopefully!).
Cheryl - We probably won't make the M&G either because our plane is later. We are staying at the same hotel so maybe we can meet there for bit on Thursday? I don't know what time you get in. Our plane gets into Milwaukee around 6pm so by the time we get rental car and get on the road I think we'll be getting to hotel around 7:30 pm. BTW - did you get my message about the hotel rate?
