For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son has a college degree and ENLISTED? Is he nuts?
My son leaves for bootcamp next week. I am soooooooooo upset. I was wondering how many others have children that have a college degree and enlisted? My son is going into Nuke. I am hoping to hear success stories! Please share with me....

WONDERFUL...thanks so much for the information Vknorr! I am struggling this first week thru bootcamp but am OVER the fact he enlisted at this point. Congrats on your children's success! I look forward to this myself. ;-)

I think maybe we need to be posing the question- why do some people feel that a military path is somehow less than a college route and some other professional career? Are those serving doing so because they were not good enough, privledged enough, smart enough to go to college? Did they just settle for the military? I say no! Those men and woman serving in the military do so for all of us and often at great personal sacrifice. It is a much broader scope than any single private sector job or career. The military teaches values and honor that no other classroom can teach. We need to lift them up, honor them, support them. They would die for us. Would your boss or coworkers do the same?

ProudMom...I am not saying that the others were not good enough, privledged enough or smart enough to go to college. I do however believe some may have not had the financial opportunity though. Trust me..I we are looking at a college for my daughter to attend next year and its very costly. Regardless...I am just saying that in MY case..I wish my son had went to grad. school versus enlisting. He made his choice so I am supporting it now (was hard last week..but its better this week ;-) ). I think we all have different life situations, beliefs and wishes and this was mine at the time of my post. I am very proud of ALL the men and women who are serving in the military and am aware and proud of the personal sacrifices they are making. I can say..I know my bosses and co-workers would NOT do what out men and women are doing for us therefore am proud of the military folks. I look forward to seeing my son gain the experiences and teachings the military has to offer him that will only enhance his college education. God Bless each and every military person and their families.

Finally someone that can feel my same pain - my son too has a college degree and has enlisted! He leaves in December and is going to be an EOD diver -- I am trying very hard to be supportive and it is difficult -- I am too hoping to hear some success stories!!

I happy for her. She can always be an officer later if that's what she wants to do. Being an enlisted person may not pay as high as an officer. what about stress level and just enjoying doing what you like to do. I enlisted in the Army reserves back in "79. went to basic training in JAn "80. I would have been happy just being an enlisted person. All I wanted is to go to Texas and get my dental training. However things didn't go as I had hoped... and I got processed out. The sad part is getting thru Bc was required for going on to school... BC had nothing to do with what I was going in for... The only weapon I would be using is a suction hose, or an xray machine. But I guess I was not meant to go that route. I do have a collge degree, and volunteer in the feild I studied.. which is Human Services. Now the VA offers jobs on a civilian basis and I might research that option. I wish your daughter alot of luck. Her college studies might come in handy yet. Did she go in for the same thing she studied in school? or did she choose a whole new field.?

Well its actually my son. And NO..he is going to Nuke school but got his college degree in Business Administration/Finance/Econ. He musta had a change of heart?! Glad it all worked out for you. You are correct..enlisting is what he wanted to do and he can always be an officer later if he so chooses. He is in the first day of week TWO in bc..so I am sure its all good now..lol. He was allowed a call but the 'shit' chose his girlfriend. She missed his call but she said he left a voicemail..ha! Thanks for responding. ;-)

NM Loreta, I am sorry, I realize it was your son that you were asking for success stories... I had already responded to your post at one time, I was responding to the lady prior to my post.. sorry for the misunderstanding. As for me, it happened to turn out the way it was supposed to, but not the way I had hoped. I really would have liked to get my training in Dental, but that really wasn't my calling after all. I hope that your son is doing well. and whatever he chooses to do, he will be successful at..

Yup... mine too! It is a blessing that he experienced all of what he experienced in college. He will be a stronger candidate for whichever area of Navy he is looking for. He will be a natural leader among the enlisted... he is older and more experienced in the details of life... food, travel, checkbook/paychecks... he knows how to study and how to succeed. He will have his frustrations with some of what he will experience... because he has already learned those lessons. He will have some challenges... and that is what he enlisted for. God Bless him for his willingness to serve. If you need support... please write. I'm here... Cindi:)

Hi Loretta - I am down here in Albuquerque:) We preferred my son wait until he finished his college education, too - he had just two years to go before he graduated. I have come to learn, though, that every job in the Navy is just as important as the other. My son tells me it is the chiefs that run the Navy and he didn't want to be a paper pusher as an officer - lol! He loves his rate and says he wishes that he had enlisted even earlier! My husband has been in the microelectronics/semiconductor field all his working life. He says whenever he received a resume and read "Navy" on it, that was the guy that got hired. Every employer knows the training and discipline these guys learned in the Navy is the very best! Best of luck to your son. My son finishes A school in Great Lakes on Tuesday and graduates Friday. We are so proud of him!

Thanks Jessica..for you encouraging words. I am certain my son did what he wanted to do..and it will allwork out. Sounds like it is for you as well. Fantastic! He will be in bc three weeks this coming Tuesday..and I am struggling having NOT heard from him yet..(WTH!!). He is going Nuke after BC (his choice) and again..this is what he wanted.
