Hey everyone! my husband has his orders to report to Lemoore on the 14th of August, Im trying to leave with him to get there together. we will be coming from San Diego and I wanted to know if we can apply for on base housing from here or do we have to be there to do it? I was looking at the lincoln military housing and wanted to get some opinions or advice on how to go about this process. Also does anyone know if there is a waitlist or how long it would take to get a house?

Hey navywife...

yeah thats what we did, since the wait was kinda long, we didn't mind renting an apt out in town. I like it here in Visalia, nothing like Lemoore, but it would make sense for us to be in Lemoore since my husbands job is there! Gas is costing us a lot having to drive there and back everyday...sometimes twice a day. But we have friends here in Visalia, so we will continue coming here twice or three times a week. have u checked out any apt yet? We did everything through emails and phone. When office told my husband that theres a waiting list, he didn't want us coming here and have no place to stay, So he made the decision to look for an apt online. He called and did everything over the phone. We just took a 6 month lease...anyway....good luck with coming here and I hope ur move will go smoothly.
Waiting lists will rely on a couple of things: paygrade and family size (number of bedrooms needed) on how long the wait is. A lot also depends on the time of the year. Things tend to move really fast during the summer because that is the peak season for people to move. We got here and had a house the next day, but we qualified for a 4 bedroom home for senior enlisted, so that made a big difference. Believe it or not, 4-6 months is not really that long. There are some bases where it is more like a year+.
That is true. When I was stationed in Japan, the waiting list is about two years.. now i think it's down to 18 months.
Hi My son has just received orders for Lemoore. Can anyone tell me alittle about the area, waht is it like, things to do, what is it near, what meighborhoods have alot of navy couples, he and my daughter-in-law should look at for housing if they cant get on base? he is an AT and this will be his first duty station so everything is very new. Thank you!!
Lynn, if they live in town, it will depend how far he is willing to drive to work. Lemoore the town is about 7 miles from the base, about 10 miles from the operations side of base where the squadrons are located. Hanford is another 7 miles east of Lemoore and some people live as far as Visalia, which is about 35 miles east or Fresno, about 40 miles north. Keep in mind that the valley is going into Foggy season and the fog here is BAD. Bad enough that visability is under 50 feet frequently and car accidents are common.
Lemoore is a small town of about 20,000 people. The base has a population of about 5000 living on base. Hanford is about 40,000 and Visalia is 125000. There is not a lot in the immediate area, but there are things to do that are close - i.e. a 3 hr drive or so. LA, Sequoia's, San Francisco, Yosemite, etc.
If they live on base, there are two terrific new community centers available with pools for housing residents. There is a base movie theatre, which is free movies. Gym, etc.
Lemoore has been my least favorite duty station that we have lived at, but I can tolerate it.
hey Lynn...my husband is an AT...when do they move here?
Hi,  welll my son's move was delayed and now he is coming on April 14.  where did you end up living?  any suggestions on where to look for an apartment for him and his wife?
Hello ladies. I have a question about base housing. My husband has been assigned to NAS Lemoore since Dec. 08 and we have been living off-base in Fresno. He's currently deployed and have decided we want to move on base now. How would I go about trying to get on base housing? Do I have to go to base and apply? Or does my husband have to try to take care of it while he is on the ship? Thanks in advance!
If you have power of attorney, you can go on base and apply yourself but if u don't I think you do need him to sign some papers.
Hi, my son is also headed for Lemoore on April 14.  His wife will join him in a couple months.  where are most of the navy families staying - is there an apartment complex that is mostly navy people.  since they dont know anyone it would be nice for them to be near you and other navy wives.  thanks Lynn

I need help. My husband just find out we are getting orders to lemoore I am trying to find out information about Lemoore base housing the ones in VA are not good.We have lived in VA for the last 7yrs It is a big move for us.

My mother will be living with us does anyone know if she will be allow in base housing with no problems. she already has a military Id from my father.

I am also looking at figuring out the schools down there My daughter will be starting K. in Sept

I don't know, Christina, but perhaps this would be seen by more people if you ask in the main area?
