My brother graduated September 29th from GL. After his phone call at 3 wks, he called 1x every weekend. He was in a push division that only lasted 6 1/2 wks though. Not sure if that makes a difference. I got 1 phone call at week 4 (September27?). Then I got another on the 28th (Tuesday) b/c he got a 20minute reward phone call. Felt bad though b/c I couldnt remember how to do a 3 way call. He got off the phone with me to call his mom but she told me she missed/never got the call.
Bonnie Mae & Josh's Mom, are yall going to the meet and greet at the Ramada inn on the 28th?
And just why not? lol - just kidding. I signed us up to go, but it will depend on whether or not we arrive at Great Lakes at a reasonable time - and how tired we are since we're driving up from Florida.

I hate not to go, but I want to make sure we're rested up for the PIR on Friday - that's what we're going for anyway! I'm hoping we'll be able to spend time with Josh on Friday, after PIR and then go and be with him at the airport on Saturday .... and when he's on the plane, we'll be jumping back in the car to head back to Florida. BLECK!!

Hope to see you there, but if not I'm sure we'll meet up in the stands!

Have a great day everyone!
My daughter is in Great Lakes bootcamp. She is ship 7 division 351 and will be graduation 10/29 as well. We are from Missouri and wish all the graduates luck!
My boyfriend is the Chaplain Petty Officer in this division. Things are going better from what I last heard and the guys are starting to act more like a team. However, a lot of people have been getting ASMO'd (like 5 since they got there on the 30th of August). Expect my next letter tomorrow... I get them on Thursdays so if I have more of an update I will let you know.
Hey Dillons Mom -

Don't lose it, although I understand it being a little difficult to get "in step" with a group who has been bonding for several weeks. He'll be fine! My son is the Athletic Petty Officer - his name is Joshua (If you hadn't already guessed! lol). Tell him to look for Josh B.

As Charity said, things seem to be going better than they were at the beginning. There were several who weren't grasping "The Navy way," so to speak, but I believe the majority have settled into the routines. From what I've been reading, I believe this is "Hell Week." Meaning they will be learning the guns, gas and firefighting. All of that working towards Battlestations and PIR!

We're looking for the next letter which will hopefully be here TOMORROW!! Another week almost down ... and only three more to go!
Mrs. B. That's exactly what Joe said in the begining!! Some just are grasping " The Navy Way".....almost exactly word for word what you said..lol. :) The first day he got to write he told me at the beginning they had to write an 800 word essay on Military Bearing because of it.
Dillons Mom ... and I forgot to say ... WELCOME!

We are here to hold each other up. Hang in there!
Bonnie - YIKES!! I agree with Dillons Mom - I hope it wasn't my son, either! Although, I know Josh has said he's trying to keep his head down to keep him out of trouble and to get through this. He's ready for it all to be over.
I hope Joe has become friends with Billy!!!! He sounds like a GREAT guy!!! I want to cry. I hate for them to have to go through that. Joe has already lost 2 rackmates... one had family matters that caused him to have to leave and the other was sick like the entire time they had been there... AND he said that many of his friends were getting sick, and he was just starting to feel all alone. Then he wanted his Dad who lives in AL to come to graduation to come but he cant (we live in TX).... and a few other disappointments have happened... He has been really upbeat for the most part but a few day i could tell that he was kind of down and know i am kind of scared of what he is going to tell me in the letter I should be getting tomorrow.
well thats good. :)
Whew!! The ASMO thing kind of got to me, even though I know it was a threat. I think that's an underlying fear for all of us AND mostly for the recruits! However on a happier note, we got two letters in the mail today and both of them were very positive sounding!! YAY!!

The only "negative" - which isn't really a negative except for my hubby and I (Well, kind of) is Josh got reclassified due to some vision problems. This means instead of his rate being AME (He was to study Aircraft Maintenance), he'll be going in as a Master At Arms - that's not the "bad" part. Instead of going to A-School in Pensacola, FL, for five weeks and being "only" six hours from us, he'll be going to A-School in San Antonio for 11 weeks which is 17+/- hours away!!! BLECK!! LOL.

Hey, I've always wanted to visit San Antonio so we may be there at Christmas!! (I hope!?!)

He gave me a list of the LAST names who are on his "friend list." lol I know Billy is on there and John (If Jean is out there lurking! Ha!) - those are the two I "know." I think he had about six or so names of the fellows he's kind of made a connection with.

He actually didn't make any mention of the issues after the phone call. Maybe the reclassification thing got him psyched up! Ha! Hey, whatever it takes to get him through!

Anyone else get a letter - or two or three or ten? Hopefully filled with some good news ...

Bonnie - Glad to hear the majority of the letter from Billy was positive! Josh said they've been doing the firefighting and weapons training - an area he enjoys since his dad is a fan of shooting, and he was raised (pretty much) at the rifle range!
I live 5 hours south of San Antonio. its a great place. You will have fun visiting!!!!
