Thanks for the info. I am just really needing to hear from my son at the moment. My husband would go away for months at a time and I would be left behind with 2 boys yet I don't remember ever having such a difficult time with that. Once I know he is okay I am sure I will be much better but this is awful!
Oh proudmom, I know this is one of the hardest things I have ever gone through. I believe the 2nd of the three calls they all get to make should be soon. (the I'm still alive call) It sounds as though you have a pretty good kid there and I just know he is fine. How did he sound in your letter? I am thinking of you, it is a huge relief to get that call. Stay strong!! :) We will be staying at the Residence Inn also.

Savannahgal, where will you be staying? Lol cute story about the glasses. Poor guy, glad he is doing well!!
Thank you so much for the kind words. This has been an awful couple of days. I decided this morning to just give it to God and trust that my son is going to follow the path he has set for him. This site is great if you are hearing from your SR but knowing that some have gotten to call and he has not puts all sorts of thoughts in your mind. For instance, I read something about a SR having problems with nose bleeds, my mind immediately went to my son because he has always had problems with that. Then there is something I read about A school being too full and some of the guys switching jobs, if you only knew what he went through with recruiters here and MEPS. It was awful. He almost did not join but then went back under delayed program to get the school he wanted. He had his dad here then to look after him and step in when they were pressuring him. My mind keeps thinking he is going to get so worn down that he gives into something that is not what he wanted and end up hating life for the next 6 years. All this aside, he is a great kid and I know the positive aspects of taking this path will far out weigh the negative but as a Mom, it gets rough seeing that at times when you are missing them. Once I hear from him I will be so much better! Thanks again for the help. Hope to see you at the Residence Inn :)
Proudmom89,
This is the first time I have posted on this site. My 18 year old son is in DIV 370. I too, haven't received a call yet but I did get a letter last week. Up until that moment, I had been a big ball of nerves. When I got his letter, he said things were going fine. Of course he said that the first week was terrible but now he felt like he was back in school.
Don't worry, he'll be ok. It sounds as though you have raised a fine young man. Its our nature to worry about our babies. I bet we get a call home this week and I can't wait.
Thanks so much. It helps to have a little reassurance. My son really did not say too much at all in his letter. I guess that is why I was a little concerned. In the one short letter I got, he did say that he did not have anything very exciting to tell us about unless we wanted to hear about him shining his boots or ironing his underwear. I thought that was kind of funny. I am not sleeping very well not knowing how things are going so that call will be so wonderful when it finally comes. I am lucky because my son is at least a few years older than many of the other guys (21) I think it would have been even harder had he left right out of high school. Well hang in there and we can start counting down the days until 11/12. Where will you be coming from? We are driving up from Louisianna. Long drive! I sure hope I get to see him after the PIR. At this point, I hope I get to see him at the PIR lol....

I'm coming from North Arkansas. I'm probably going to fly because my son asked that I bring his 2 sisters with me. One is in high school but the other is just 5 and she is a TERRIBLE car rider. My son said some of the same things in his letter, up at 5:00, making beds just a certain way....etc. I'm not sure I could have handled a letter that said something to the effect of, I hate it here or I made a mistake. I send him cards every couple of days and try to be very reassuring, in fact I had to giggle, my 5 year old sent him a card and it had halloween stickers on the outside of the envelope. She accidently tore one that said "spooky" and it just said "pooky"....I'm sure he got a hard time over that one. I look forward to meeting all of you next month.
I am pretty sure that your 5 year olds sticker will bring a smile to your son's face. That is too cute! I actually missed a call from my son today but he did get to talk to my husband and my daughter. He did not get to call the other day when everyone else did because he had 4 wisdom teeth pulled. They said he assured them that everything was going well. He did say he was having problems making the time on the run so that worries me but I am going to keep praying that he gets it. This is all pretty intense for Mom's to handle but I feel so much better now that he has called home. He has his wings, it is just time to watch him jump out of the nest and soar! This is true of all of these wonderful kids! I look forward to meeting everyone too.
ok that must have been the procedure of the day because my son also had some wisdom teeth pulled. He sounded great on the phone. I had to laugh though, he said it wasn't so bad because he was able to catch up on some sleep. Now you know your child is tired if they don't mind have teeth pulled so that they can sleep. :)
Proudmom, I'm so sorry you missed talking to that sweet boy but you are so right about the nest. I have a facebook and the day that my son shipped, I watched proudly as he was sworn in. I facebooked that day "I just witnessed one of those moments in life that takes your breath away....now fly baby bird, fly"
Not much longer and we get to squeeze them again.
I wish I had gotten to see him sworn in but on the other hand I am not sure I could have handled it lol... I think I cried for 3 days after he left. These are all wonderful kids to be willing to serve their country and I know they are going to be fine. My son's voice was on our answering machine so I got to hear that again last night. He sounded so different. Good but different if that makes sense. I love these moments in life that take your breath away. They are what it is all about! I am counting down the days now and I will be so happy to get my hands on that boy. He is having some problems with his run time right now so everyone please keep him and all the others in your prayers. God bless them all!
My son also had to have all 4 of his wisdom teeth pulled !!
Can you imagine having 4 teeth pulled out while going through all that at Boot Camp. Gotta give em credit lol.... Keep thinking about seeing him soon Leslie. That will help with missing him so much. They are more than half way through now. We just need to say lots of prayers that they are able to make it the rest of the way. I have faith that they will!
I have alot of faith too ! I am excited that they are half way through. When I really think about it....it seems like he just left yesterday. But I guess that is because I have kept myself busy so that I don't just sit at home and worry about him. I am a very worry person....especially with my kids. Between my husband and I we have 8 kids and this is the first one that has joined the service. I am really proud of my son for what he is doing. I am just so excited about November. I just can't wait for it to get here. I told him that I was gonna give him a BIG hug.....but of course not infront of anyone.....and he just laughed at me. I am glad that I have found a group that I can talk to people about this. I think this is harder for moms.
