Welcome! I'm new here, too, but my son's PIR and ship and div. are same as your husband's! There is some wonderful info re: graduation on the graduation forum. I've gotten good ideas about hotels and travel from there. Basically, it sounds like we need to get there Thursday, check into a hotel near the base, and hopefully get a hotel shuttle to the base early in the a.m. (6:30 or so). We'll have seats marked off for best viewing of the division our loved one is in. The graduation itself is not very long, then hopefully you and you husband will have liberty for the afternoon and evening, unless he is leaving right away for A school. But please check out the other forums for the best info! There is a forum for our division, too; sounds like some other older recruits in that div. My son is 22.
Hi! I am also a new navy wife!! My husband is on Ship 11 Div 369....Go ahead and start making arrangements for graduation. We are staying at the navy lodge.. Its Real close to where we must go for graduation. 65 a night and no tax and it has a kitchen:) We will be renting a car from the airport. They say to be out there early Friday morning cause the line gets long. so like 6:30 am or so for graduation. Don't know what all you need to know but feel free to ask. I've been doing nothing but research! So im on it!LOL!!!! ttyl
Hey ladies - Please feel free to join the group PIR 11/12/10 Ship 11 Div 369 as well. There are a couple other ladies that are in that one that you guys can connect with. It's a few discussions down from the one you created.

Also, several hotels in the area do have taxi services to the base, and most leave beginning at 6:30. I made reservations at the Residence Inn for $63 a night and the have the shuttle service. Just another option!
oh Diana! you are so sneaky...you never told me where you were staying for sure. We'll be getting there late so don't wait up for us O.K. ? Maybe we can take the same shuttle on Friday? Will have nightmares the alarm clock will not go off !!!!
That would be bad !!!
nola ♥
I don't mean to be sneaky...honest! I won't promise not to wait up though, like you said I'll be worried the alarm won't go off!!!! And yes, let's do the shuttle on Friday!
Welcome! I'm new here, too, but my son's PIR and ship and div. are same as your husband's! I am with you on not sure what to expect or do about graduation.. my son is 19..when I come up for graduation do I bring him any clothes or any of his belongings?
Cottonsmom94 - Have you gotten the form letter yet? That should help you with booking hotels and airfare if you are going to fly. I have heard that it is a good idea to bring some casual clothes for your husband to wear - around the hotel room only - though. This way they don't mess up their uniform. If of course you leave your hotel room he'll have to be in uniform. I've heard some people bring cell phones and laptops, but again I believe these can only be used off-base.
Do not bring them anything, they can not take anything back with them. They will have to be in uniform all weekend no civilian clothes allowed. My daughter graduated boot camp in March so I have been through this before. If you have any questions send me a mesage I would be happy to answer them.
Hi. My son is on Ship 11 and Division 370. Have you heard from your husband yet? I have not spoken to my son but did get a letter Friday. Just wondering if anyone else had heard anything. My son is 21. We are staying at Residence Inn about 3 miles from the base from what I understand.
Proud mom, we did get a call on Saturday and letter like you on Friday. I'm thinking Residence Inn also. Our boy said their division was one of those that graduates in about 6 weeks rather than the eight, so they are rushed, trying to get all the requirements in. He said he sat round in a lot of medical appts. at first, and feels that the more "fun" stuff is coming. Funny part (not for him) was that he really has poor vision and it took a few days to get the Navy-issued glasses and he couldn't see the RDC pointing at him saying, "YOU! SAILOR!" so he didn't know he was the one being talked to! So he felt that he got off to a rough start, but is fine now that he can see! He asid he didn't care how ugly the glasses were, as long as he was able to see! Also says some people have to learn not to talk, just shut up and do what they are told. Guess being in a military h.s. helped him some in that regard.
I am glad you were able to talk to your son and that he got his glasses. I am really worried about not getting a call from my son. Does that mean he is in trouble? He has always been very good at doing what he is told and keeping his mouth shut lol... My husband was in the Navy for 15 years on subs so he gave him fair warning ahead of time. Hate not hearing that he is okay. I guess it makes sense that they do not have a great deal of time if they are graduating earlier than the others. Why is it that they are graduating in 6 weeks instead of the 8? Not that I mind of course.
He explained to me that there were some slots left in the PIR 11/12 "class" and they filled them. Other guys therefore had a longer time to learn the basics that these guys are having to learn immediately. He did say that 50 out of 87 in the division did not pass their initial fitness tests and are having to work on that. HE has to work on keeping rack and uniform shipshape, but passed the PT stuff OK. I can imagine these guys feel a bit pressured, in that situation. I was wondering, too, if they were being held back on calls for that reason so was thrilled to hear from him on Sat. He said they weren't supposed to be able to call till this Wed., don't know how he got to call on Sat. His dad and I were both home, for which I'm so glad. I walked in the house 5 minutes before he called, or I would have missed it (he called his dad's cell). I do know that if a division as a whole is really excelling, they do get extra privileges.
