The way I look at the POA is that is if he becomes incapasitated in any way shape or form and unable to make decisions for himself, I/We will have the right to do that for him. the difference between limited and full is that Limited they can specify what they want you to handle. Currently Steve has a checking/savings that both he and I are on, If he opens up a Navy Federal Credit Bank Account, he is the only person on that account, they may not have a lot of money in the bank accounts now, but soon enough they will (hopefully they becomes savers! :).. the papers that were filled out with the navy were for benaficiaries and notification, I found out tonight - my husband and only my husband is to get any bad news, still not sure how i feel about that.
Hey Nancy - My son came home last week and said that we had to meet with the recruiter today, my understanding is that this is done for all in the DEP group here, 7 days prior to shipping...
Pick Up the phone and call them and schedule an appointment to go in and speak with them -
Patti-called my son as I was reading this. SO much to do and so little time! Bugging him for the recruiter's number...see I don't even have that!!
Nancy
Thank you Patti. My husband went with Drew to his meeting yesterday and our recruiter doesn't give as much info and/or it was lost in translation, LOL. I didn't think about them sitting at Ohare waiting on other planes to get in. I'm sorry Steve is going to have to go through getting his teeth pulled while he is there. 2 days does not seem long enough. Susan
I agree, Ian is only 18 and doesn't have much of anything. The only thing the kids are GOING to have is their paychecks, and much of that will be spent on uniforms and food.

Ian doesn't have a debit/credit card and didn't want to get one. What do you think about me getting him a pre-paid VISA card to take with him in addition to his $40-50 they say to take.

Also, did you guys read anywhere that they should take paperwork from their bank to set up direct deposit? I am having Ian get the necessary forms.
Yes I also read that about the direct deposit forms. Susan
This is what we did as Sean is not a good saver...
Three accounts 1) Checking with a debit card 2) Savings 3) A money market that he cannot touch. It is for saving not spending. He will need to bring a deposit slip for each and the Navy will fill out the allotment for each. With 25% ck, 25% sav, 50% mm. I am on all accounts. He owns nothing so I don't know about a POA but will consider it. Now I don't know how all this will work out with what he needs to pay for. What do you think?
okay i have a question, im with wachovia, but im switchin to the navy credit union one, should i cancel mine here.. and theyll gimme an acount a boot camp or what? i have no bills as of this moment, but will when i get out.
Hi Betsy, Brandon said all he needs to take is a voided check and the navy does the rest. He can keep his bank or switch to Army/Navy Credit. I am just getting a medical paper allowing me to know his medical information (HIPPA). At boot camp I believe he can also sign one so that I may know his condition if he becomes injured or sick. I am getting him a prepaid phone card tomorrow and I read they can take debit/credit card with them. I told him to write down the names of four of his best friends and their phone numbers in case he wants me to call them. The recruits that need security clearance will need us to know the names of their friends and their addresses so it would be a good idea to get that now. Brandon had a fit when I told him I was writing him every day. He said if you get too much mail you will get yelled at. Just what I need. Something else to check on. lol. I am too tired. Thank you all for the information. By the way, Brandon said there are 5 recruits leaving for bootcamp the day he leaves. All from little Corpus Christi. Amazing. Of course they will be shipping from San Antonio Monday. I am so excited and stressed at the same time. Night all. Kathy
Sean's Recruiter wrote a letter everyday and sent it home as one each week. I think that is better because....When Daniel's mother died we found all his letter's in a shoe box he wrote home from Vietnam. That history is now sooooo important. I guess what I'm saying is try to get your DEPPER to write everything down that he/she can about feeling's and experience's and send the letter home every week!!!. Nothing sensitive of course. It will mean a lot later in life. RAOC.....
Betsy found this:
there are different types - so you would have to chose which one would be applicable to you, if any..
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/leavinforbootcampinmarch/forum/top...
Thanks for the site on DPOA and POA. I'll look into it.
Something else from Sean's recruiter that I think I should mention...If your DEPPER is over 21 and you plan on going to dinner Monday night, no alcohol! It will change all the tests they will be getting Tuesday.
And to navygirl. If your bank is everywhere would you need a Navy account? I think I'll talk to Sean about it and see what he thinks, He may want one anyway.
