My son swore into the Navy in February and will be leaving for boot camp on October 26th.   While I am very proud of him and the decision he made, I dread it with everything in me.  I know there are lots of parents that have experienced the same thing and would love to hear from you.  Please help me prepare for what is going to be one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

Thank you for the message and I do really love this site. It has let me see that there are lots of others that have the same thoughts as I do and they were, or are, in this exact place.
I have told Tyler that I didn't sign up for this and we laugh and say that we are going through this together! I couldn't be more proud of him but as his momma I'm still terrified. Maybe that is simply because I just can't see him without me. He is my heart and maybe there's just a selfish part of me that wants to see that I am his as well. Probably won't happen though! LOL He has a great life ahead of him and I am going to smile from ear to ear (after I'm doing crying) knowing and say to everyone "that's MY son"!!!
Take care and thanks again for your message. They are most helpful to me during this time!
Angela, come join the "Leaving in October" group. Look for the discussion of "leaving the week of the 25th of October" We are all supporting each other as we get our children ready to leave for Boot Camp. We would love to share this experience with you. Have a good day. Kathy
Thanks, Kathy! I'll check into that!
Thanks for your very insightful story - - I really appreciate it!! I have had a very rough day today - - When does he call you?? Is it just on Sundays??
Continued good luck to your son!!! And I look forward to hearing more encouraging stories!!! This website has been VERY helpful to me today.
stewfam welcome and good luck to your rct....check out the comment wall on your page for info. I have just left you a message with links to groups and other info
Thanks for the welcome - - and I will check it out. Very much appreciated!!!
Thank you for your encouraging message. I'm hoping his time passes as quickly as the time has for his going away. They put videos on youtube?
I'm so glad to hear that your son is doing great and I'm going to believe that Tyler will as well! It is a very honorable and selfless thing for them to do and I am proud of all of them! Congratulations to you and yours. I wish you all the best!
Angela, My son will be graduating bootcamp on 10/29. N4M will be your lifeline to your son. My son would write but not say anything until the letters I received last Thurs. and today. Until then I got on this site and learned what he was doing from other moms/wives from his Division. I was more nosey than worried. We as parents have worked 17+ years to raise our children preparing them to go off on their own. What better place than bootcamp.....away from mom and dad, but really supervised and training to do their job. After bootcamp, they are still supervised at A school and have to earn more freedom. They are actually controlled more than they would accept from us. Write him often. My son's first letter ( maybe 4 sentences) said Please no musshy stuff. Rather than saying I missed him, I would say "been thinking about you and what you are learning" My son and I were both used to him being gone for several weeks at a time(He is an Eagle Scout and has traveled alot in scouts. Even to England for the World Scout Jamboree). And he doen't need to here how miserable you are, because there is nothing he can do about it. In his letter that I got today, he asked about his dog and asked me to tell him the truth either way. When he left for Boot camp, he said good-bye to her, because she has cancer and probably wouldnt be alive when he got a chance to come home. The good news on that is she is still with us and not in alot of pain. Maybe she'll make it to his leave during the holidays. They are learning to be strong and the musshiest I got was saying that when he left he was my boy and when I see him at PIR he will be my young man, who has accomplished alot in 8 weeks. Hope this helped.
Orca...your post brought tears to my eyes..esp the part about his sick dog. If she's still doing well would ya'll consider driving to PIR and taking her with you? He won't get to see her till after A school and it probably would mean a lot to the both of them.
If she traveled well we would. One of our friends is going to stay at the house with her so she won;t be alone.
Okay...do you have Skype on your home computer and do you have a laptop you can take with you. It would be great if he could see and "talk" to her.
Hi Orca! What a great email! I absolutely love hearing these stories and I'm sure one day I'll have my own to tell and instead of being the one that needs support and encouragement just maybe I will be the one encouraging and supporting others.
Tyler has spent time away from home too and I know that part will be much easier on him than I would like to think, but just not being able to pick up the phone or call him is going to be difficult.
I am just so proud of them for making such honorable decisions at their young age! And their opportunities are going to be limitless!
Congratulations to you and yours!
