While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I'm drooling tsmom!! :-) I'm still giving you credit, for better than they could have been menu choices (and not grabbing McD's!) ... Grilled, not fried, Portabello (a vegan's favorite as a a hearty meat/protein alternative) and sweet potatoes, filled with fiber instead of starchy (fried) russet potato french fries. Doesn't wine have antioxidants and reversetrol or something? Have to check that, but for now, I'm going with it! Everything in moderation. Complete deprivation is no way to live! Follow the 80/20 principle, 80% good, healthy choices, the other 20%, well, have a little fun. Just don't overdo it! :)

Ladybug, she's still flying from all the excitement she feels about next week. Probably won't even need her plane then! LOL Shhh, let's let her get some rest!
Too bad I'm not coming, I'd be the designated driver, I'm allergic to the sulfite's in alcohol! :)~ Keeps me out of trouble I guess. :) So, it's up to Proud Mom of a Sailor's hubby's to make sure you are all bright eyed, shiny and present for PIR!
Ya know, I was going to abbreviate your long name to letters there Proud Mom, but PMS, well, it just didn't seem right! LOL Proud Mom of a (almost) Sailor it is! I also have trouble with the sulfites ever since my pregnancies. I stopped drinking completely and gradually I've been able to tolerate more. I can drink 1-2 glasses of wine and I enjoy being able to do it again. I know some wines seem to be worse than others, but have not been able to make any real connection for my symptoms.
Would love to get a letter today. Kind of bummed that I haven't gotten one this week. :( -

Vodka is good. Margaritas are too! There is a place here that has pomegranate margaritas--not too sweet, but very tasty! ;)

I have the room and we can always go someplace else in the hotel...pool, our room. So other then TSmom if anyone wants to private me their phone number I will either call or send out a text message when I get there and settled down and then we can meet in a common area. I can't wait to meet everyone as I believe in making new friends and having them all over the U.S could be fun. New places to visit and now that some of has more time on our hands. I know everyone is dying to come to Michigan and visit!! HAHA. If you have never seen snow I will be able to show you all some real soon. Well better get to work.

Nice to know I'm not alone in my malady. In light of your comments Ladybug and Brie, I just might do some careful experimentation. :)
Exchanging phone #'s before PIR is a good idea. :) Re: the next place to call home onsite... There is a list of current BUDS Class Groups on the Pre Buds Moms main page. Two more are in the works, (anyone want to volunteer to be an Admin? Please PM me) so there should be a place for you all to land soon. Your sons should be told what Class they will be part of, if not before PIR, then once they are settled over at Pre Buds. Although, there could be some "reshuffling" as the Classes are created. You are one of the last 800/(SEAL) Divs to Graduate this year.
Remember, as a new BUDS Class, you will be combined with others from other 800 DIVs, as well as med rolls from other (prior) Classes and loved ones of Fleet guys and Officers. So, I understand you wanting to have a more intimate place to keep chatting as former Divmates. =) You could do that in a discussion in your Class Group (like you have here) as that would be private. As long as you continue to keep posted comment general and details to your PMs, you could also set one up in the Pre Buds Group, OR just keep on meeting up here; many members do that, continuing to keep in touch with their former PIR Group and Div. My Divmates and I kept chatting for over a year on ours. :-) Now, the few of us that continued to stay in touch just text and call.
You are right, Proud Mom, it IS very fun to have N4M friends from all over the USA!! :D All of my other Divmates were from the south, so I am going to have to make a pilgrimage down there sometime. Just be sure you have unlimited texting! My phone buzzes often now. It has been great to meet other N4M friends, beyond and after PIR. I've traveled to a few states to do so, even went to a ship homecoming with some. Incredible experiance!! =] Keep telling my hubby we just need to buy a big RV, take the homeschooling kids along and travel the country visiting all my N4Ms in almost every state and some Navy bases too. :) First though, he needs to find self employment he can take on the road! LOL Well, a girl can dream...

Does anyone have any packing tips? Last time we visited that part of the country was about 10 years ago. I am an overpacker :( We live in Cali, and anything below 65 is cold for us. LOL I suppose a few scarfs for the neck will be helpful. I did buy a pair of bearclaw boots. They are snuggly soft w/fur inside I am use to dressing up for work w/heels, but didn't think they'd be too practical for this trip. I know I probably sound crazy to those of you who are use to the colder weather. It sprinkles here and we say we are having a rain storm.

Bonos-mom what time are you coming in? I'm sure we will all be up late, cuz who is going to sleep. Not me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know, I'm getting cell numbers (inbox it to me) and will be texting or calling everyone when we get to the Ramada. Did you buy a ribbon? I think for m&g I'm dressing casual and getting a tshirt that says something Navy on it!!! As for the weather it will be cold. The last time I was in Chicago it was so windy that you could almost be lifted off the ground. It is called the Windy City for a reason. I would make sure I wear a scarf and gloves. A lot of the moms I have talked to are going to take the train into the city. You do not want to drive as it will cost you a small fortune to park...like $12 a hour.

Has anybody gotten any letters from their SR--any tid bits of general news? I haven't heard from my son since the last round of calls. With both calls I also got a letter within 1 day--it was great to get so much news from my son at once, but the in between times are getting so hard.
Two letters and two calls--each was wonderful, but I want more! Kind of like chocolate... -

I feel the same way--. I guess I need to toughen up.
BTW, my husband travels to Chicago from periodically and used to live there (years ago). He always knows about how to get around and good places to go to eat, etc. Besides wonderful italian food there is really good greek food. There is also really good shopping--but I guess our sailors wouldn't be interested in that! -

I was watching the travel channel and they were doing a show on good steakhouses all over. In Chicago, there was a place called David Burke's Primehouse. The prices are too steep for us right now, because we will be having other family joining us on Saturday, but it looked yummy. I also found a pizza place called Silo. It's a chain and supposed to be good. My son wants Chicago Pizza! Here's some info my sister sent me about food and places to visit. She's been very helpful and supportive to me while my son's been gone. She recently visited Chicago:

If you can swing it, the First Lady Architectural tours are fascinating http://bit.ly/9nfPcY I think it's $20 per person, but really worth it. Millennium Park is a wonder and free with lots of cool events http://www.millenniumpark.org/ I'm not sure what might be going on in October, but sometimes there are free entrances to some of the surrounding museums. Cloud Gate is fascinating and free. We walked around it in the rain (take umbrellas!!)
