Got another letter from our son yesterday. 3 pages :) It was the best yet. He talked all about an exercise they went though and how it was emotional and how proud he was to be there. He has so much respect for his division. He personally wrote something to each of us telling us what has made him what he is today and how he wants to protect us forever. It was difficult to get through it without crying. My husband and I couldn't believe that we could become even more proud of him. Oh boy...this reunion is going to be emotional for me. I hope I don't cry the whole time.
Im glad you got such a great letter. Our sons are growing up arent they? We got one of those a few weeks ago and I cried through the whole thing. I think my husbond got a bit choked up too. Cant wait for next week!
Dillion's Mom. Thank you for your post. In each letter he's sent, he has told us that of course he misses us, etc., but this one he really spelled out how he appreciates all we've taught him and how much he wants to protect us and his country. My husband teared up. I just flat out cried. Unfortunately, i don't think we'll probably be at the M&G in time. We don't get to Chicago until late afternoon, and with the drive in, i doubt we'll make it, but you never know. I hope you're son is doing well!
We got our ribbons and they are soooo pretty. I will be so proud to wear mine. So will Dad, Sis and Grandmas. Grandmas won't make the graduation, but they will still wear them proudly. You did a terrific job Lala! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! You did a fabulous job. You are special :) Kayliefirefly
Finally just got a chance to post again--been running around all day!
Here are a few suggestions from my husband:
In Schaumburg (which is close to the base): Webbers restaurant--just like the grills. popular and tasty grilled food. Can't miss it with a big grill on top.
Shaws (in Schaumburg) for seafood at Woodfield Mall
Italian food--Volare at East Grand st in Chicago (I remember this place and enjoyed it)
Greek food--Greek Isles (might be Greek Island) on Halsted st in Greek Town (Chicago)
Chicago pizza- Unos & Duos (sp) both from same family
Sushi--my husband couldn't remember the name :( but there is a good restaurant in Arlington Hts, which is very close to the base. If he remembers it, I will post it.
Things to do: if you enjoy zoos or have little ones with you and weather is nice, the Lincoln Park or Maywood zoos are excellent.
At buckingham fountain at Grant park there are museums worth visiting---Science & industry, art institute and acquarium (Have done these years ago and really liked them)
Shopping on Michigan Ave and Rush st (and all the cross sts like Ohio, Ontario, etc.)
We went to a retro adidas store on Rush st a few years ago and the kids loved it. Was pricey, but found a few things that weren't.
Our sailors probably won't be with us at night :( and can't drink, but Chicago has great Blues and Second City comedy theatre is a lot of fun (may have matinee performances).

Thanks everyone for sharing your letters--it really helps to hear something!
Hope this helps. I think that for all of us, just being with our sailors will be fun. It won't matter so much where we are, as long as we are together. :)
Well, just when I thought we received our last letter before PIR, we got another today. One today, one yesterday! And just when I thought I was not going to cry again until next week, I did once more. He's very excited about seeing us once again and bless his heart, he said he was sorry for the sappy letter he'd sent. Little does he know, I am so greatful he has a sensitive side.
glad you got another letter that is great! I cant wait for PIR also!!! Have you packed yet. I am going to do that today !!!
No packing yet. I've gotta clean house n do all laundry or or I won't feel organized enough to pack. I also have an overpacking problem. Avoiding it a little too. Good luck.
Sunday...only a few days left. I have been praying for all to go well with BS. Wrote another letter, but wondering if it will even get there before PIR. I have ants in my pants....so anxious.
From his letters, it seems like he's getting ours sooner than that, but I haven't sent it yet. I am going to send them (hubby wrote one too) and and make a copy to take with us. If they are staying in GL, will mail be held for them? Thanks for letting me know.
i have one to send also It will be interesting to see if they actually get them I am going to write that its the last one and ask him later if he recieved it.
Thank you Polly Anna.
