Hello everyone,

My daughter leaves for bootcamp November 9th.  This will be the first time she won't be home for the holidays.  I was just wondering what happens during Thanksgiving and Christmas???

Just wondering,

Two weeks at the earliest, usually three weeks.
Hi Kathy...I have NO idea how I got the letter so soon...I wash SHOCKED! It came the following Monday after his box of stuff came on Friday! It was not a 'personal letter' it was the information letter from the Chief...but my son wrote a comment in the comment section telling me he is the "laundry guy" (Laundry Petty Officer) and that they are called "you F**KI*G Dumb sh*ts" a lot :)..and he 'didn't know what to think of the place yet!" And that was it! Maybe it went by the Alphabet ?? Luck of the draw I guess...I am so sorry you have not gotten it yet...HUGS!! The waiting was killing me...and still is, to get the first real letter! Maybe today it will come...mine was exactly 6 days!

God bless us all....

Cindy
Wow, that was fast! Good for you!

Unless you filled out and returned a form letter to specifically pick her up that day, then, no she will not be leaving base for Thanksgiving.

Ma'am,

Those who are eligible for adopt a sailor will send home a document to be filled out by immediate family members. They do not need to live 50 miles away from the base as long as they plan on not traveling 50 miles away from base with their recruit. Those who don't have the opportunity to be adopted by a immediate family member will be sent out in groups to local civic organizations. Those family members who haven't filled out the paperwork that was sent home and sends the paperwork back to us as the instructions states will not be allowed to pick up recruits.
My son went out on 10/26 also....my husband and I want to attend his graduation and need to take off work, but didn't know how to find out what the graduation date is...what letter did you get with the date?? Was it from your son or the Navy? Thanks for any info!! :)
I see your later post about your letter....do you know if all families get one??
kandykid you should get your form letter with ship, div, addy, grad date and info., password for gate pass and a few lines from your rct. it'll come about 2 weeks after your rct left. You should be able to get the addy from the recruiter.
My son left 2 years ago for boot camp on November 21st. Thanksgiving was tough as he had just left 2 days prior. He did get a great meal and had time to write letters but nothing special. On Christmas he said they were allowed to listen to the radio and his division chose rap which my son is not a fan of. We didn't get a call either day nor was he far enough along in boot camp to earn an adopt a sailor visit to a Navy home. We did get a call just beforeChristmas and then again after Captain's Cup..a competition bewteen all the divisions. My sons division won the coed title and they all earned a VERY SHORT phone call home. I'm a teacher and my class of kids made holiday cards and I sent them to all the recruits in his division.
My son is scheduled to leave on 12/21 but we were also told they don't usually send them that close to Christmas and it will probably be moved up. He is at his DEP meeting today and I am anxious to find out if they have given him a definite date yet. I am already having my "missing my boy" crying moments. But I don't cry in front of him. I am trying to stay positive and encouraging to him. He is excited and ready to go but also a little nervous b/c of the not sure what to expect factor. I wish everyone else's children luck on their new journey and I will be praying for all of you and them as I pray for my boy. I am sure you will be seeing me more often as the date gets closer.....
