Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Just got our letter today so not sure how many out there have the same information. 7 days in and he says it sucks !!! probably so !! we'll start writing to him, encourage him to keep going and remember that you go through Basic Training, you don't stay there. Better things await those who persevere !

they are a little worried the pizza party is a trick...its a common thing up there for the RDC to have a "pizza party" for the recruits (sailors now!) where they have to do IT (intense tranning) until the RDC are finished w/the pizza...but C said they are taking everyone to the bank to chip 10 bucks in...soooo...he also said he love their RDC they have been very honest and straight w/them about stuff...i do think 10 each is high for pizza but...

Wow, I hope it's not a trick. That would be a bummer. I got a call from my son tonight.
OK, so here's the story I haven't told everyone here yet (to protect the innocent). My son started dating a girl he met in his DEP group about a month before leaving for GL. She is just a DOLL--very tiny, short, petite, and full of spunk. They really really like each other. She went in 2 weeks after my son. They were hoping to accidentally see each other at GL, but were also very aware of the strong rules against fraternization. They were communicating with each other through me--a letter here and there I would pass on. Anyway, the young lady blew out her knee on a run and got separated--sent to Ship 5 for two weeks and just got back here to Texas this past monday. She was able to call me while in Ship 5 and I wrote my son a letter to give him the bad news. I was hoping it wouldn't discourage him for BS21 and all the other tests he had that week. He tried to call her right after BS, but she didn't have her cell turned back on yet.
Long story short--I took her out to dinner tonight to give her a letter that came in this week, and she was going to give me a card to take to my son. We were sitting at a restaurant and my phone rang--it was him calling! He got to talk to his sweetie for over 45 minutes. I got a few minutes in there too. So adorable!! She can't come to graduation because she is in a full leg brace and on crutches, so travel right now would be too hard and she has doctors to see. I think it cheered her up immensely to talk to him after her big disappointment. She will be eligible to reenlist in a year if she decides to.
He said they nearly won Captain's Cup--actually placed 1st in 5 or so of the 12 events. And that was right after BS, so you know they were still tired. There is a slight chance they could make Hall of Fame, but one of their group academic scores was a little low. However, some of their other scores have been astronomically high. Their score for BS was 4.88 out of 5 which my son described as "freakin' amazing!" They don't have a lot to do this week--one of the benefits of going to BS so early. -

How sweet! I didn't get a call today, so I am hoping that means that she got to talk to the young man she met in DEP. He is across the road in A school at Great Lakes. She got a little bit of a preview of Great Lakes as she went to visit him about a week and a half before she left for basic. Since they weren't in boot camp together, he had PIR in July, they were able to send letters.
I'm a little bummed that I didn't hear from her, but am really hoping it means they got to speak to each other today. -

I got some new long underwear to wear under my slacks ( I know too much info) but it's going to be windy and cold and that wind just cuts right thru you. Winter coat, scarf, wool socks, gloves, etc. I think I'm ready to go !!

This is going to sound like a stupid question but it is inside, the graduation isn't it? I guess I should rethink what I am wearing too. It souinds like there will be a lot of walking outside. I hate traveling with all that stuff.

it will be indoors but outside will probably be chilly just because the lake determines their weather and it is Nov. - my son said they did have flurries back in Oct. but weather reports don't predict any for our time there. Yay !!

If you are looking for italian food I recommend Rose Angelis hands down. My family does a lot of business in Chicago and Rose Angelis is one of our top favorites. It is a quaint intimate place. If you are looking for an american restaurant Rivers Restaurant is also recommended. They are both in Chicago. Menus are available online for you to look at as well.
