Ship 03 Div 031 / PIR 12/22/2010

hi everyone! im just new on the website. and here im supporting my beau!

he left for bootcamp last Oct 28 (supposedly Dec. 15). but thankful that thru this website i'm discovering  new infos about whats going on.

i'm only 19 and my mom passed away 2 years ago, so goin on here and seeing all you're affection towards your sons/daughter reminds me of my mom. though im not in the service... i feel like we are all sacrificing for the betterment of our country and helping fulfill our future sailor's dream! 

i have few questions though, so after his graduation (12/22/2010) will he be able to come home with us after that? or do we have to stay?... and thats if he's not a grad n go right?

and today, is when i got his graduation letter...  while i was reading the little note he wrote on the bottom part of the paper, i unconsciously felt water on my cheek, and bursted into tears! and i did nothing but prayed to the Lord that him and everybody on bootcamp may survive and pass.

hey.. welcome this site is so awesome! it helped me alot when Chad was in BC he just had PIR 10/29. yes you should feel like you are sacrificing for the betterment because we are, us navy wives,gf,fiances,all family members go through just what our sailors do (so to speak) we go through the months of no communication, we deal with the heartache of being seperated just like they do.

to answer your questions. no he will not be able to come home after BC, he will go to his a school after that weekend given he isnt GnG. but if hes not then you get the weekend with him (usually not overnight).

im happy you got the form letter with the few words at the bottom. just wait til you get the letters, you think those few lines made you cry just wait.. but its a good cry.. if that makes sense.lol

aww thanks honey! yep thats right, its a good cry. its like a mix of sadness that i miss him but its a sense of proudness that he's already there reaching his dreams. he just said that he loves me so much and been dreaming about me every night. and he said send him pictures for his well being. lol. that made me laugh a bit!

how's ur Chad doin? how was the experience?.... :)

but the thing is he graduates Wednesday.... do we wait til weekend or something?

My Chad.. lol... i liek the sound of that...he is good, hes on hold for A school in GL. hopefully he starts Monday. his experience at BC he said it wasnt that bad but he just wanted it to hurry up and be over. he made some good friends (the best friend he made there i talked to his mom on here before i even knew they were friends lol.)

its so hard to put his PIR experience into words. words cant do justice to actually being there. but it was amazing, its crazy to see the complete transformation. :)

since he PIRs on a Wed. im not exactly sure that works because i heard that the base is "closed" for Christmas but he does get 2 weeks leave. so you will have to join your PIR group and ask the specifics on that.. but that just means you get more days with him :)

i know right! hahaha.. well im really glad you are past over that BC experience..
its a rough ride, but hopefully we'll get thru it too!! and yeah, thats amazing! u already knew his bestfriend's mom on here before u knew theyre friends! lol.. cool!

i already did joined.. so i think carl's a school will be in Pensacola, FL. which is i think would be great since im from Florida too and its like 6 hour drive.. so if we opted to fly every other weekend it would cost as much since its in-state

that good.. Chad is getting stationed 4hours from where we live now so its good. because i plan on working until the end of the year then moving permantely. hopefully it all works out. im glad he choose there :)

and yeah it was a real rough ride, i would burst into tears outta nowhere it was crazy, but then once i would get a letter i was happy until i got another one.. so i was on a bit of a emotional roller coaster.. have you started writing him yet? i wrote chad everyday , sometimes twice a day...lol... i sent him over 50letters :D

My Son is 03 031 too! Just recieved the letter yesterday. His name is Cole! I do not know the answers to any of your questions! Ha!

With a Wednesday graduation right before the holiday stand down, your sailor will be in a unique situation. I can give you a best guess as to how it will go.

Normally, with A school in P-cola, he would be a grad and go. But the A schools there are also going on stand down. He will probably be checked out on leave. He will have to travel in uniform, which is safe in the continental US. He must pay his own way home, and to school. He must save his travel papers/leave papers/receipts and put in to be reimbursed for the part of the journey the Navy would have paid for had he been going straight to school. (I hope he can afford a ticket, ouch, huh?).

He may wear civilian clothes at home, but he has not earned the privilege to wear them on base. He will be given a set of rules he must follow, and you never know when there's active duty Navy around, and yes, they can reprimand him. The rules are usually things such as no driving, no drinking. And no driving means no driving a vehicle at all, not no drinking and driving!

Do understand those ten days are leave days, and he'll have only earned about five during BC. They earn 2.5 days each month. He will be asked to sign a paper borrowing future earned leave days. This means he may not have a lot of leave on the books when he graduates from A school. So the normal visit home after school before his first command might be cut short.

Leave is earned time off, they have to request it and sign papers to take it. Liberty is normal time off such as weekends and holidays when they don't have duty. These types of time off may not be combined, so the weekends and holiday during the stand down will still count as leave days. Students don't get the luxury of command call in to check in or out on leave, so don't think he can cheat the system that way.

I recieved a call from my son on Saturday. He also said that he was going to be able to come home after graduation before going to A school. His PIR is December 22. Do you know if they can make their travel plans or do I need to do that for him? If I do it, how do I get him the information. By what he told me it sounded like he was able to search airlines - do they get internet access? I am soo confused. We only had four minutes to talk and it was very confusing. He said he could do it and then he asked me to do it but he had to have his travel itinerary and how was I suppose to get it to him -oh I guess I could have mailed it.

He should be able to book his flight himself while he's there in boot. However, if he's asking you to book his flight for him from boot to home, & from home to A school, you can email the itinerary to [e-mail] OR fax it to 847-688-3279. Be sure to include your SR's name, ship, & division.

thank you so much for the info Anti M!! how many days off do they normally have after a-school before goin to their 1st assignment? so is that seemed thats for sure that he's a grad n go? and if so, can i accompany him to pensacola from chicago? since im from florida too! that way we get to go home together

My daughter is PIR the same day 12/22 and is ship 12 div ---. I read we are not supposed to give specifics on here. Is that true? She left me a message that she is coming home for 13 days and yes, borrowing leave time before she leaves for Pcola for A school. I was not aware though of them/us having to pay her way home and then to Florida. Originally they said she would go directly there after PIR. And, I can relate to the tears at the drop of a hat!!!
