xxpaprincess, Don't you wish life wasn't so complicated??

My son is in Advanced electronics as well. It is called AECF. My son's pay rate is FC. (Fire Controlman) He is going to be in charge of the big guns on a ship. He graduated from boot camp in August of this year. He was told that he will be at (A)school in Great Lakes until at least January 2012. I have a feeling that your fiancee will be stuck at Great Lakes until at least then. I think everything will be ok for you to get married. Of course your Sailor will have to get permission before you two can marry. Makes sure he goes through the correct channels. His SDC will be able to give him all the information needed.

Do you know what your fiancee's Pay rate is. ie, my son's is FC.?? My son told me yesterday that he will probably be going to Dalgren, VA for (C)school next January. He is hoping to get to work on Aegis weapons.

Believe me xxpaprincess, your Sailor won't be sailing anywhere else for a long while. He has lots of schooling ahead of him.

Below is a link to the AECF group.

Sandy :)
Im not really sure what his pay rate is i know as of right now he is an e2 but thats about it thats really great to know that he wont be going any where any time soon. this really means a lot to me because i really have no clue whats going on.
It is very confusing. All these words that stand for stuff. E2 is your Sailors rank. The pay rate is referring to his job.

I text my son and we talk over Skype. I think it is hard to understand what is going on because we can't talk to them in person. It took me awhile to figure stuff out. Sometimes I have to talk to my son several times before I know what he is talking about.LOL. I have to ask him very detailed questions. I don't want to act like a cop, but how else am I going to understand. Getting info from these sailors is like pulling teeth. If you feel like you are in the dark, you are not alone.
i will have to ask him.... he doesnt really have access to a computer yet. he just finally got his phone yesterday and i agree with that he doesnt really give me detailed answers just kind of little yes and no's thats why i joined n4m cause i figured i could get a lot more of my questions answered then what he can tell me
xxpaprincessxx. Your sailor knows what is going on but is tight lipped because of his training in boot camp. It took my son awhile to "Loosen Up," and feel comfortable talking to me. New sailors are kind of scared that they might give away too much information. I think they figure it is better to start now and get used to not saying too much. After all, they are military and follow the rule of "Loose Lips Sink Ships."( OPSEC) My son told me that they are reminded of this all the time by their SDC's. My son was told about a sailors wife who posted her husband's Ship, location and time into port on Facebook. As a result of this, sailors were put in danger. I am very careful with what I say on the web even on this site.. Facebook is not secure at all. You can say your sailor's first name, just not their last. (unless you personal message)
that is a good thing to keep in mind i'm talking to him now and he said that he was ET
Oh ok, His rate is ET. The link that I gave you is to the AECF ET and FC group.

First your sailor will take ATT. I am not sure how long the ATT class is. Because my son is an FC he took half of his ATT class before starting (A)school. After he finishes (A)school, he has to complete the last half of ATT. Confusing!!!!!

My son just finished the first half of ATT and started (A)school 2 weeks ago. ET's and FC work together and their education is similar.
I was just reading your comment and am glad someone elese has the same prob abouy gettn info! lolI have to write all my questions down toask my sailor and then like u said he takes me a few times before I get it! I guess they just have so much going on at once!
LOL, ya, and there are all these different things that they have to do everyday, like watch, duty and muster. I always get watch and duty days confused. To me "Watch" is a "Duty." Military life is so different from civilian life. Since my son moved to Great Lakes, it is almost as if he is in a different country. LOL
You have duty every four days. On your duty day, you might or might not have a watch. Sort of like Sunday comes once a week and you might or might not go to church.
Oh ok, I am glad you explained that.
I wonder why they have duty every 4 days. Is it a Navy tradition? or is there a reason...
It is pretty standard. However, once they hit the fleet, it varies wildly. I usually stood duty twice a month, and it wasn't standing a watch, it was staying overnight at work as the on call technician.

There probably is a reason, I bet I know it and have forgotten it for the moment.
