For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Well in my experience of only being here 4 weeks, the pediatrician on base is not accepting new patients, or that's what I was told. My daughter is almost 2 and I just signed her up with the General Family Physician I am using. There are several pediatricians in the area. I heard good things about Sweetgrass Pediatrics and I believe the other was Palmetto Pediatrics. My only experience with a specialist is having to be referred to an OB since I'm pregnant, but the OB comes to the Base Clinic under contract. I wish I could help more but I am still adjusting to this area as well.

How is the pediatrician not taking new patients? People are in and out of here an awful lot...

That's an excellent question. When we went to Tricare to get our PCM's changed the woman said she was going to give me Dr. so and so, and then said she would give my daughter the same Dr. she was giving me since pediatrics was full. They may be taking newborns but not toddlers? I didn't ask for an explanation.

Do Tricare Standard--if you can. Seriously. If you have serious health issues of any kind whatsoever, do not rely on military doctors to assist you. ALL government anything is slow. They are slow with appointments(sometimes and that might be a day you really need it), slow with referrals and slow to send you out during after hours care. If your doctor cant see you and you can't wait, they'll slap you to another doctor that has never seen you, knows squat about you and that is not good for serious aliments, obviously. The pediatricians here are sub-par. Sorry, but true. Sandlapper is slightly outside of Mt Pleasant, it is a bit of a hike(in Sullivans Isle technically) but they are fabulous, fast and friendly. Great, great doctors. It is worth the deductible of 250 and a copay(essentially--20%) to know your child will be taken care of and if you don't like a doctor you can walk right out and into another practice same day, no wait and no drama. If this is not an option for you to do standard I recommend NP Barton(sp) she is under Dr. Mundo and she is great my son saw her before I moved him back to Sandlapper. Just another spin on this and an honest opinion( I worked in the medical field until recently due to moving here) so I seriously can say with complete confidence you do not get the same quality of care or specialty on serious issues on base. Wish you the best.
