My son arrived at BC on 11/29. I ha missed him terribly and was thrilled when I got his first letter home yesterday. I hope a phone call comes soon. Anyway, does anyone else have a family member in the same division? Maybe we can share information. I was so excited to find this site as it already has provided tons of info for me. Best to all! Do you know his grad date yet?

I got that letter today! 02/04/11! I'm so stinking proud and emotional all at once. What a crazy ride so far! Looking so forward to more. :)

Hi there,

My son is also located at Ship 02 Div 911. I'm in California.

Rosie,
Welcome aboard this crazy journey we are on. So good to hear from you. Have you heard from your kiddo yet? I keep hoping a phone call (other than I'm here call) but nothing yet. I did get a short letter and the form letter with graduation info. What about you?

here is the link to the 2/4/11 PIR group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/div061pir2411

Also check out the "900 division sailors" group.  The 900 divisions are the performing group.  Several different duties these sailor are responsible for as well as their "normal" boot camp duties.  Does your son have any band/choir/JROTC experience? May be a state flag bearer, a "body snatcher" or even behind the scene duties.  Good luck to your son.

Gulf Coast-Yes, my son did band for 7 years so I kind of think that's what he will be doing, but anything is possible. Um, what's a body snatcher? Does the 900 group just apply to BC or carry over to school or even beyond?

the body snatcher is the person who goes up and down the rows of "at attention" Sailors at PIR to make sure  they don't faint (and they HAVE fainted...esp in hot weather) You'll see them at PIR...pretty cool to watch.

The 900 division just applies while in boot camp

Hello Robyn - My son is also graduating from Ship 02 DIV 911. His name is Erik. The last letter I received from him was on Thursday saying they were really working the guys hard in the exercising portion. Have you planned your trip to Great Lakes yet? Thank you for posting their group o here. Regards, Regina  :-)

Hi Regina-My aplogies for not responding.  For whatever reason, all it would let me do was send the friend request.  I have not planned my trip yet, but am planning to do so shortly.  Where will you be coming from?  I assume you have made your plans?  I am thinking of seeing if there is a room at the Ramada where they have the meet and greet. Have you heard anymore from your son?

Hi Robyn - I secured a room at The Residence Inn Chicago Lake Forest/Mettawa. My contingent dates are 2/3 thru2/6. I didnt book a flight yet. Waiting to make sure the dates are firm for graduating.  I am coming from Arizona. I'm going to write my son another letter and get it out today. What is your sons name so I can tell him that I have befriended you on Navy4Moms. My sons name is Erik Strube and I believe he is heading up The Riflery Divsion. He spent 5 years in The Civil Air Patrol that's why I believe he is in the same division as your son.  Also, not sure if my husband will be able to make it yet. If not, I will go alone. Erik's position is Hospital Corpsman. He will be attending his A school right there in Great Lakes. Although when he went in for his medical, they told him they might be opening a new A school in Texas! woo hoo! My poor son is not use to the cold in IL. Have you heard from your son lately? Thanks, Regina

Regina, my son's name is Grant.  I haven't heard from that little turkey in1 1/2 weeks now.  As of yesterday, he has been gone 3 weeks. He was in band for 7 years so I assume that's what he's doing in his division.  I am afraid if he had to perform with the rifle, he might knock out the guy next to him and himself all at once! lol  After BC, he will be headed to Groton, CT for submarine school.  Luckily, we live in a part of TX that gets snow and pretty cold at times so I hope he was somewhat ready for the weather there.   I will most likely be attending grduation alone unless my father is able to go.  I know he wants to, but my mother is terminally ill with cancer so everything will depend on her.  I cannot wait to hear his voice again!  I miss him, especially with the holidays here.   Talk soon :) Robyn
