For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Wish i was part of it
My son is on ship 09 but div 72, he also graduates12/11/11 but in a different division.
Hope you all don't mind me adding to your group. I need to find my group and haven't had much success. He left 11/13 and got a phone call from him just 5 days latter. I was so happy to hear from him and have already sent him a letter, can't wait to here from him again. I know how scary it must be but he is strong and willing to do what it takes. Thanks for letting me add this comment. ;)

No of course we dont mind , this site is to help and support moms with sons/daughters in bootcamp and everybody is welcome.:)) This is the best place for information and support.
You said your son left on 11/13? And is in ship 9 div. 072, right? Im not sure if you mean he is to graduate on 2/11/11, because you typed above 12/11/11. Im guessing it is just a typo. lol
Keep writing those letters to him, he can receive mail everyday now. They love to get mail. Any questions you have can be asked on this forum, and the 'discussion' section holds a lot of helpful info about bootcamp and graduation:))

thank you for your email. I thought they could only receive mail on Sunday's. I guess I beter start writing.
Can they get anything else besides mail? Is there anything else I should be sending him? -

Yes!! First of all, they can only WRITE on Sundays, but they just started to recieve their mail that we have been sending the whole time. They hold it for about 3 weeks, but they gave it to them. Finally:))
They are able to receive stamps, phone cards (activated), checks (if needed), envelopes ( i put several inside of one envelope), pictures, no bigger than wallet size, and nothing raunchy or distasteful, debit/credit cards, and greeting cards,(no musical ones, no large ones, and they prefer only white envelopes). You can ask him in a letter if there is anything he needs. My son told me to send more stamps. But there is a supply store they where they can purchase these items. They allow the kids to open an account there.:))

Welcome Gs'mom - one of the things some of us do is write the letter on the computer and put the pictures as part of the letter, add jokes, stories about favorite shows, what his family is doing, news stories that might interest him. Do not send anything overnight or priority unless specifically asked to do so , do not send any packages as they will not get them. On the site for your PIR there should be some questionnaires that the recruits like and it has some questions that you may not have thought to ask. Go through all of the discussions and read the ones about the photo packages, PIR info, mail guidelines and they will answer many of the questions that you may have. At one time or another most of us have had these same questions.

Welcome Gsmom ~ this is a fantatic site with a wealth of information. Be patient and write letters and write more letters. As soon as your son can receive them he will be elated to read everyone of them. They ALL enjoy the little piece of home it brings them through our words of encouragement. Join your PIR group that Jessica sent you the link for it will help get you aquainted with other Moms with recruits in your son's PIR group or even DIV.
