While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I can speak for myself on this one...I live in Illinois. the weather changes here very fast. Chicago in February will be a cold one. Winter coat, scarf, earmuffs/hat, gloves. I agree it will be hard to look sexy in winter gear, but there is always later...best advice is to overdress, you can always remove layers. Better to do that than be freezing.
I also heard that the hall is pretty comfortable, even in the winter. so layers can be removed once you are seated...

I also live in SC and will be going to grad on 2/11. I am originally
from Maine, so very use to cold weather. Layers are your friend! You
will want a warm coat, scarf, maybe a hat and gloves.... it could snow
while we are there, so also think about some type of boot if you plan on
sightseeing. or at least sneakers. Heels and ice/snow dont mix. I know
cold weather clothing is not very sexy, but you dont want to freeze.
Your husband will understand! I am in the same boat though, I have lived
in SC the last 4 years.... I am like cold weather what!?!? lol... maybe
try to find some nice jeans and a sweater or a long skirt.... again not
very sexy, but....Victoria secret usually has really nice sweaters and
sweater dresses you could try that.... -

I can't help you on the air travel, we live 5 hours south of Great Lakes, we will drive. The Renissance is a popular hotel for a lot of us on this site...many to choose from in the area.

not much you can do about delays.... except pray there are none! lol I always pack light when I fly. if you have kids or travel with young kids, check your bags and limit your carry ons to a small diaper bag or something along with your purse....keeping track of kids and luggage is not fun at all! you can take a stroller with you in the airport, they will check it at the gate and it will be ready for you when you get off the plane. if you have a child in a car seat you can check that as well if you need to bring it with you. most airlines charge a small fee for checked things now days.... i usually just take a carry on so I dont know anymore....
you said you are from south carolina... what airport are you flying out of?

Thanks for the tips! I'm from Califonia & I hate being in the cold, so I'll have to wear lots of layers! And to think I wanted to wear heels to PIR!

MCPON Hall, where PIR is held, is heated. It's very comfortable in there. You can use your coat as a seat pad, I did!
As far as appropriate clothes goes, I recommend layers. Wear a tank top or mock-neck long-sleeve shirt, under a loose sweater, a heavy winter coat (best if it is hip length or longer). You can wear cotton tights under slacks. You can also layer nylons under the tights with a skirt, it's not uncomfortable and the combination cuts the wind. If you wear a skirt, make sure it's a tight style, like a pencil skirt. Broomstick and other loose skirts tend to do the Marilyn Monroe thing. There's a reason they call Chicago "The Windy City."
For boots, go with something warm that has a decent tread. This is the place Uggs was created for! Any warm boot will work. . Lined, waterproofed leather or cloth type boots is best for warmth. I wore fuzz-lined booties with a 3 inch heel and was fine.
Don''t forget a warm hat that covers your ears, a scarf (you may need to cover your face against bitterly cold winds) and warm gloves. Knit gloves are not ususally warm gloves. Wind cuts through them as if they aren't there. The best choice is either leather or polar fleece with a warm lining.

Great advice! Thanks!! I didn't even think about the gloves! We don't need gloves here and if it actually gets cold enough to, knit gloves are fine! I better get shopping! Most stores around here are actually starting to put out bathing suits and winter wear is going on clearance!!!
