This letter from ALFA came on  October 25, 2010 at 4:39pm

Dear Ladies,

Thank you for your support and we apologize that some of you are upset about the turn of events with the Lincoln Pillowcase Project. ALFA is committed to supporting you in your efforts to make this project go. We would like to make you aware of the “behind the scenes” actions that will hopefully boast moral and get us back on track to make sure that the sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln know how much we appreciate and support them. First off, we would like to address the issue of Mrs. Stephanie Wilcox, the former project coordinator. It was brought to our attention that Mrs. Wilcox had not obtained approval from the CMC or CO of the Lincoln. We are aware that she obtained approval from the Strike Group 9 Legal Department but approval needed to be obtained from the CMC or CO of the Lincoln as well. After lengthy conversations with Mrs. Wilcox to obtain the information ALFA needed in order to take this project to the Lincoln for approval, she told two of our Board Members that she was quitting the project because it was too stressful. Finding a new coordinator was a logical first step for us as we did not want this project to go to the way side and reality is that command approval would not have been granted to Mrs. Wilcox. Command approval was granted to Heads at Ease as they are an established group with credibility behind them. Heads at Ease has done this project for many other service members that are serving our country. Yes, you could have sent the pillowcases you made out to your individual sailors or even to their friends but without command approval or support there was no way that all sailors would have received a pillowcase, which is the goal that we are working towards. Second, is the issue of the project name change. The name of the project was changed because not all of the pillowcases will be done in time to make it to the ship for Christmas and as an added bonus, we do not offend those service members who are not of the Christian Faith. Thank you again for your continued support of our service members! If you have any further questions please contact ussalfa@hotmail.com.

Cordially,
The Abraham Lincoln Family Association

The notes and labels that Dori has designed, have been amended to say Lincoln Family Love, as this project has now been opened up to the entire Lincoln family, not just N4M.

I am going to remember that story forever it is the best!

I'm sure you didn't Kim.

Here's another one.  Interesting what he has to say:

Thank you very much for the pillow cases, it is surprising how much a simple thing like a pillow case can mean so much and bring a smile to all our faces out here. I am an Aviation Machinist Mate (AD) and am currently TAD (temporarily assigned duty) to Supply and while I was in my shop we had some of the French Navy onboard and they were amazed at how much support and appreciation we get from Friends, relatives, and Communities, and organizations around the U.S. In France they said that their people do not like them in the least. It just made others and myself truly appreciate what organizations like Operation gratitude and Navy Moms do for us. THANK You very much for your support!

Sincerely,

ADAN xxxxx

I just cannot imagine someone not supporting their military! I am so glad I live in America!

one more that came this morning with a dedication attached. This is thanks for a pillowcase sent to VFA 151.

Dedicated to the loving supportive military spouses, parents, and children.

Without the love and support from the loved ones we left behind on this journey, we would not have the strength to endure the long hardship of deployment, regardless of which ever branch of service we serve. You are the reason as to why so many of us take the oath in attempt to make our world a better place. The support that we receive from our parents, spouses, children, our best friends, and even complete strangers is the driving force behind the pride we have in defending our country. No matter what our Rate or our MOS may be, we do not perform at our best without the passing thoughts of you. We remember the wonderful times, and try to get over the ones that weren’t so good. From the time we set sail or step foot on the battlefield we think of returning back to you. While many of us will return home to open arms and heartfelt tears of joy, we also face the harsh realization that some of our brothers and sister in arms may never make that transit home due to their ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty leaving behind wives, husbands, children, and parents. Our prayers and condolences go out to you.

There is no guarantee or promise that tomorrow will be in our favor. There is only faith and hope. We have faith that we will execute our country’s business to the best of our ability by effective decision making, strategic combat readiness, and teamwork. And we hope that our hard work will be rewarded not by money or recognition, but by the pride in taking care of one another throughout each day so that we can witness the glorious expression on your face when you see us either returning back into our home port from a ship, walking through the terminal at the airport, or by you opening the front door due to an unexpected knock to see a hero stand before you in uniform with a sea bag in one hand and a dozen roses in the other. That award alone is worth more than anything that we can possibly imagine, and that award is you.

Thank you for your sacrifices, your love and your support. We could not do what it is we do without the thought of you. This is for you.

Katy and Arla, this is for you too:

Mrs. Lamberson,

Thank you so much for the wonderful pillow case. I am a diehard Red Sox fan. I know it was very much appreciated by me and the others who received the pillow cases. The small touches of home help pass the time and keep spirits high. Any time we receive a letter or a special gift like this is does wonders for us out here. I remember my first deployment my wife made me a quilt to put on my bed and I still have it 12 years later and now I have a pillow case to go with it.

From your letter the success of the Heads at Ease is amazing. This was a truly inspiring idea to reach out to people. Thank you for what you did for me and thank you for what you have done for so many.

Respectfully,

AT1(AW) xxxx

my son gave me a report on some pcs for his squadron:

drew loved his pc and Sxxxx wouldn’t shut up about it!!! hahahaha we loved it and I gave him a little back story about the shirt. All my chiefs were very thankful, esp Hxxxxx. And the skipper said a great thank you too. stood up and shook my hand. He’s a true man.

I had made those, with alittle help from the ladies listed below:

Dori- Sxxxxx is the one that she embroidered his name and I used the Boston Red Sox scrub. I even tore out the pocket and sewed it on to the band on the back side for tissues or pictures of his family.

Janice- the skipper is Pxxxxx. Ben had said before that he loved the band that you embroidered and I used the Tucson sunset fabric for the base. I told him that I kind of think Tucson is paradise so I used that fabric. It's beautiful fabric.

Drew is a buddy of Ben's who was a cubemate on the 1st deployment and got one of my original pcs in July 2008. this time it was golf.

And Hxxxx got Oakland Raiders: 1 side was black and the other white.

Arla sent the Boston Red Sox shirt.

Happy New Year Ladies and Thank you!

here's another thank you:

Terry and Sue,
I wanted to personally wish you a Happy New Year and thank you for the packages you have sent. I cannot tell you how much it means to the troops to receive these packages after being at sea for such a long time period. I am one of the pilots out here and I can tell you from the officer perspective that your gifts greatly increase morale and are much appreciated by everyone. Unfortunately the ship’s internet connection isn’t the best and we are so busy that not all the recipients of the gifts will be able to email you a thank you note, but I’m sure all of them, if they could, would tell you the same thing that I just did. Thanks again and have a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
LT Rxxxxx

Dear Linda,

Thank you so much for the pillow case! I love cats, how did you know? Haha. I will definitely be using it soon. Thanks for thinking of me.

Justine

This was a sweet thank you from a sailor! I think they are smiling! Wow!

Linda

Yhanks for sharing Linda! We don't expect them to have time to give us a thank you buy man it makes us feel good!

Hello, I just wanted to thank you for the very nice pillow case you made and sent here for us. It is a nice change from the plain white ones proved to us by the ship.  It was a very nice gesture on your part to do that for us. I know that I wasn’t the only one who was impressed and thankful of such a gift.
