Thank you for your reply.  All the support has been wonderful!  I am one of the few people left who does not do facebook!  So I hope there are other mom's and family members out there who will use this website as I love it.
I am the only left in this world that does not do facebook!  I would appreciate any important news that you might here on facebook on this web site!

stargazer - I sent funny photos I found on the internet, a few photos, and cards, I never heard anything from my LO about negative reactions. I guess I would say that if you wouldn't want a Marine DI to see it, don't send it. I included inspirational quotes, song lyrics, and the occasional news story. Really, all they want is a touch of home. The letters are a bright spot in a long, hard day, and even if you don't get one in return, keep sending them. Some moms sent letters with multiple choice answers in them, some funny, some serious, and all their LO had to do is circle the correct answer and send them back. These seem to have also gone over well.  You've probably figured out by now that they don't have much free time while at OCS.

Good luck to you and your LO.

Thank you for your reply!  I love the idea about multiple choice questions and I think he will find it amusing!  I do put in one or two smaller envelopes when I write with stamps and some paper already enclosed in them.  Also, good point about content and who might read them!  Also, I didn't know you could send cards to OCS...what kind did you send and did the envelopes have to be white? When did you son graduate?
Hi stargazzer -- I didn't have a facebook page till myLO was in OCS - it was a great way to keep in touch with the other parents and get info back and forth. I still have facebook - because when my LO gets deployed it may be the only way to read how he is.( Even though recently the Navy turned facebook off and then back on again shortly after)   I sent my LO a small letter and newspaper clippings twice a week - in a brown enev - that was 6 x 9. He got them all --the first few he didn't get right away. After the 1st 3 weeks the mail gets better and then he could also write back. When he stayed in Newport following OCS for SWO school - he had all the letters etc everyone had sent him in a box and said they helped him get thru many days.  Sometimes I enclosed comic strips and sometines the crossword puzzles and games that are in the paper. Just remember as dmarie said - it really means a lot to them to hear from home, family and friends. I did enclose phone cards too - since he didn't have use of his cell to week 9. He actually loaned the card to others in his class to use. Your LO will enjoy whatever you send.
Thank you so much!  I didn't know they could get newspaper clippings and comics.  Everyone on this site have been so nice and supportive.  I miss my son so much as we are close.  I wish I could meet all you guys!  Why did the Navy turn off face book and turn it back on?
Just to give all of ya'll something to think about. 1 year ago today Jan 24, 2011 my son entered OCS Class 13-10 as a SNA today he is in Corpus Christi Tx flying T-34s well on his way to becoming a Naval Aviator. Hard to believe how far he has come in one year. Remeber take it one day at a time. God Bless you all and wish the best for you and your LOs.
Thanks for the encouragement!  I've had a couple of letters from my son and even though he said this is the hardest thing he's ever done, I can tell he feel good about what he's accomplishing.
Good to hear from you, GANavyDad - thanks for the update on your son and providing some needed perspective. It is easy to be completely consumed by the OCS experience!
wonderful
Yes, your support is greatly appreciated.  As you know, "worry" is just part of  mothers'  DNA!  :-)
Good way to put it, "worry is part of a Mom's DNA!"  Couldn't agree more!  The comment to "Keep things one day at a time," should be posted all over my house!   I think of my son 24/7 and as dmarie said it is so easy to become consumed by this.
