While those of you who sew continue to sew (thank you ver much) here is our destination

Amphibous Assault ship The USS KEARSARGE.  It has been fun chatting with our chaplain, who says they have opened a new space for our Sailors and Marines to  unwind called Holy Joe's Café.  Are we ready to stock it?  Yes!

EVERYTHING in Holy Joe's Cafe is free to our guys and gals!

So, here's the request list:

Beef jerkey covered by Jack's Links

Sunflower seeds

Gum (no hard candy or chocolate)

Coffee--all sorts, both instant, packetts and brew type (I'm saying some tea, too.)

Single packet drinks

Personal hygiene products

DVDs

The crew loves any TV show. I've noticed the popular ones are: Dexter, 24, Prison Break, NCIS, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, House, Spartacus. I obviously wouldn't expect you to get all of these, but it is at least a selection to choose from.

Board games: Storage space is slim, so bulky board games may be difficult. I know that Cranium, Catch a Phrase, and games like that are popular.

Can you add to the list--of course. (No though, on books.)

Lots of cards and handmade pictures from the kids--think SPRING AND ST. PATTY'S DAY

Pack what you can in gallon ziplock type bags so the group can help pick up their godies. And of course, the pillowcases

It's now just a stitch over 1,000 needed.  Chaplain says: 1028 total

216 female

812 male

In the meantime, keep those sewing machines tuned up and continue sewing!  '

Love ya

Carol

I'm a Kearsarge mom and I really want to help. But I'm in Ohio so tell me what I can do...please!!!
Cheryl, you are in the right place to help.  See how many of your Kearsarge families may want to join our group to help, but tell them to keep it quiet.  In the meantime, we need people to start collecting what's on the wish list, and to help send flat rate boxes.  Have you done a MAS love shipping before?  We'll help you answer questions.

No, I've never done a MAS mailing before...I'm a newbie to this! As I already said, I live in Ohio but I am going to do my best to get to the East Illinois packing party. If I can't I still have to do something. One of our moms, Julie R. said we could send stuff to her as she will definately be attending. But how do I know exactly what is still needed? I saw mention of tie dyed pillowcases (I don't sew). I also see the list of things for the cafe. Are we sending things to stock that as well as things for each one onboard? I guess I'm asking way too many questions but I am clueless and don't want to just send anything willy nilly.

I also saw something about needing cards and letters. What's that all about? One of our customers at the bank I work at has a print and copy business. Is that something that can be done in multiples?

Are we sending individual boxes to for each sailor/marine or are we going to try and stock up Holy Joe's? We have done some great things with MAS and to stock up a nice Cafe would be great. I know with some of the bigger groups we did the small boxes in the big boxes. I have also just did gallon bags and put ten in a box as well. Just kinda need some clarification on what we are trying to do. Send to each or stock a cafe'. I am so hoping my leg will allow me start sewing again.

Nancy, that's my question too.  I see Kim says her post office may not be to happy to use up all their boxes if we put small boxes inside large ones.  What's your thought?  The ziplocks work great, too.

Sending positive prayers your way for your leg.

My mailman said if I requested flat rate boxes from the Post Office he would bring them to our house....tthat way I won't wipe out the mail Post office. Can do that online I guess.
Yes Scott's mom just go online to usps.com and place your order for the flate rate boxes and customs forms and they will be delivered to your door.  Be sure and get the ones for the military since they say "America Supports You Our Military Men and Women". There are 25 boxes in a carton and I think 50 customs forms in a package.
My boyfriend and I just watched a special about this type of ship. They have some amazing "toys" that are just fascinating. This is going to be fun to set them up with some goodies and treats. Their website is full of all kinds of info. Very neat.
I'm sending 25 individual ziplock bags with a shampoo, a creme rinse and a bar of soap. One for each of the pillowcases in the box.
Cool idea, Lyn.  I may copy that!

Carol,

Can't wait to start a packin'. NE Illinois is having a packing party on February 19. Oh and do we have a ship date?

I'm not sure I will be able to use the smaller flat rate and put into the larger flat rate boxes. One of the union stewards from my post office will be helping pack that day...she is a stickler and I know she won't let us do that. The boxes can only be used to ship, not as individual care package. BOO!

How aabout we use the ziplock bags with you, Kimm, if it works.  If not, the boxes will be shared as they collect from each one we ship.
