OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Graduation?
How many of you plan on or have gone to graduation? It is a long distance for us , my husband has not flown since he was a teenager and I'm not sure I could get him on a plane anyway! We are from a small town so city traffic seems intimidating to me though my husband is a truck driver. (He HATES traffic,too) Our son doesn't go to boot camp until Feb 23 ( his 21st birthday!) but I am trying to work this whole thing out in my head. I have look at airfare/hotel/car pkgs and about choked!

grad and go is when they leave for A school wight after PIR. He should know a few weeks before PIR. IF he is G&G then he may get overnights with you!!!!

Wow, you're going this weekend! I can help with some answers... The Sailor's do NOT stay out with you at night. They have to be back in the room, changed, and lined up at their rack by 9:00 PM but there is a long line to get back onto the base so leave your hotel early. We left by 8pm and when the cars were lined up Jake just got out of the car and walked thru security and to his barracks. You can't drop them at their barracks so leaving them at the gate gives them time to walk which could be almost a mile from the gate. There is discipline for the whole unit if one sailor gets back late or not at all so be respectful of the time. When you pick him up in the morning, get to the base early and park in the church lot and watch the recruits march down to you. It's so neat and impressive. Dress for cold but don't miss the march. All the units do this and then when they get to the church, they get dismissed. It's like a parade! I got there an hour before they were dismissed. Early but so what... Chicago is an hour and a half drive, highways, just like you would expect in any city but a straight shot from Great Lakes. Borrow someones GPS just to be certain to not get lost. We didn't go back into the city. Jake just wanted to be with family and we were able to do local sports pubs and pizza in Waukegan and the area around the base. We went through Bass Pro Shops to walk around and see what that was like. It was fun. They are all yours from dismissal in the morning until report time at 9:00pm! Have fun!!! Congratulations! So happy for you!

We live in West Texas and use Southwest. They are wonderful about changing flights without a $150 a piece change fee -- should your date of departure change. I have had a son in the military for ten years, and it happens. American and Continental and most other major carriers will charge you that, plus you will have to pay approximately $25 a bag (which Southwest never charges for bags.)
There is a good site for other airlines called Booking Buddy. It is a great quick price reference and shows you which airlines go into which cities.
When you are flying into Chicago, remember there are two airports, O'Hare and Midway. Southwest does not go into O'Hare; however, I prefer to pay the extra cab fare... just to have the security of knowing if my plans change, with Southwest I may be looking a little fare increase (as you would any airline), but I won't have the added change fee and bag charge.
Try to always book a minimum of two weeks in advance -- fares are lower. Often Tuesdays and Thursday fares are better.
If you are coming from the East coast, Airtran is a value airline (which is in the process of merging with Southwest), and consistently offers good fares, Jet Blue is another.
Amtrak is wonderful -- I love it and have taken the family on a lot of Amtrak trips. The train station in Los Angelas and Chicago are both worth seeing. The rail fare is "cheap"; however, if you get a sleeper... you can fly for the same price. If you decide on a sleeper, you have three choices: the small two-passenger room, the deluxe room, upstairs (toilet and shower in room, or the family sleeper (sold out a lot) as it is a large room across the end of the car.

Southwest has the best prices BUT book soon as they are going up...
Not sure which is ur home airport?? So I did a bit of research 4U These prices were on Thurs morning
LAX ~ MKE (Milwaukee) Around $120 each way
LAX ~ MDW (Chicago Midway) Around $144 there and $185 back
ONT (Ontario) ~ MDW $129 ea way one stop OR to MKE onestop $119 / $144
SNA (Orange Co) ~ MDW nonstop but a bit higher $129 and $210 OR to MKE onestop $144 ea way
BUR ( Burbank) ~ MDW onestop from $139 and $174 OR to ~MKE onestop $119 and $144
Also look at JETBLUE as they fly out of LongBeach

Good Morning Mom's.....I am driving to Vegas from Bakersfield....We got a package deal I hope....$295.00 per person 4 of us are going...Round trip into O'hare 4 nights at the Marriott 15 miles from The Base...It was that or $288 Plus tax from L.A. without a hotel for 4 nights..Our car rental is $139.00 for Thursday thru Monday...Happy Hunting...There are deals out there....I didn't think about flying into another airport since i have never been on a plane before...I learned something new...Thanks : )

We booked Southwest this week, and I booked my son and his wife first...then my husband and myself 5 mins. later, and the flight to Mid Way had changed, and so we paid 40 dollars more!!! Got a good deal on the return trip $179 per person non stop.

I didn't even get those prices.. I was seeing 379. and up, but they are rountrip. So I should come into O'hare or Midway.. I was looking to come into O'hare. Yes, very confusing since I haven't flown in quite a while. Thanks everyone, for all your help... I will take all info while I'm hunting...
