How many of you plan  on or have gone to graduation? It is a long distance for us , my husband has not flown since he was a teenager  and I'm not sure I could get him on a plane anyway!  We are from a small town  so  city traffic seems intimidating to me though my husband is a truck driver. (He HATES traffic, too)  Our son doesn't go to boot camp until Feb 23 ( his 21st birthday!) but I am trying to work this whole thing out in my head. I have look at airfare/hotel/car pkgs and about choked!

guitarmom...that breaks my heart for you.  just remember that children do childish things....i am so sorry and i will hope and pray this Sailor Girl will "get it" some day soon that a Navy Family Is A Mighty Family!!! boyfriends have a history of coming and going...she's only got ONE Mom!!!

U can do this just set ur mind on going for ur son, thats wat I did and I enjoyed it so very much

Graduation from Boot Camp is an amazing and VERY emotional experience. To see your sailor in the midst of all those uniforms, knowing he's done the tough thing and come out strong is an incredible proud moment. My recommendation is do what you have to do to attend. You will not reget it.Ok, so I'm crying just typing this. Just go.
I would say go unless it will truely cause a financial hardship on your family. You will not regret it. If you really don't want to drive from O'hare or midway out there, you can take a taxi but then you will have to get a taxi to the base for the graduation too and it can be quite expensive. My husband, daughter, and I flew and we rented a car. It was an unforgettable experience.
We too are flying into Midway airport, and renting a car.  My question to you is .....how was the trip from Midway to the Navy Training Base?

This will be my second graduation. I attended my oldest in 08 and  I wouldn't miss my youngest it was such a great experiance.

when I checked for my airfare in Dec it was pricy however when I checked in Jan it was almost half price so I would keep checking and search around daily.

There are some recruits who's family cant be there, my youngest had ask if we can take one of her shipmates out with us since her family couldnt be there so we will have an adopted recruit for the day.

Emily    here is the link to your PIR group....lots of info and support   http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir21111
Would you advise taking our 4 year old daughter to the graduation? I plan on it but any advise would be great.....
Yes...just take snacks and simple quiet games, coloring books, etc for her
Yes!  There were all ages there!  We took my 75 year old dad who was in the Navy in the 7th Fleet during the Korean War.  I wanted him to be there.  Infants....young kids... it was a family affair to be sure!  :)

My husband and I just had to postpone our trip to our daughter's graduation because she didn't pass her last run.  she sounded pretty devestated, but she's going to keep trying.  we still haven't heard when she will get to run again and if and when she will graduate.  We still plan on going we just don't know when.

I was just told by my cousin who was in the military, not to loose faith.  My daughter needs to see us strong so she won't worry about us.

we are just going to make a few calls and try and reschedule our flights and maybe take a loss because the airlines charge a fee for changing your flight.  but she is my only daughter and we need to be there for her.  She is amazing no matter what happens.

You're absolutely right!  Im so sorry she needs to re-test and that you have to change your flights but it's all worth it!  It's the best when our children know that no matter what, we are there for them!  Unconditional love... that's what it's all about!  Good luck!
