It was my understanding that they were allowed to stay off base for the weekend with family, but now they are no longer allowed to do so. (just what I have been told - this is all new to me)  You have to be in Phase II to be allowed off base period.  I haven't made flight arrangements because we were planning to drive up, but I think that it will be in our financial benefit to fly.  We would have to rent  car to drive up anyway, mine has too many miles on it.  We are coming from Alabama so it's quite a road trip.
We haven't made any flight arrangements either, still unsure what we are going to do too!  We will be coming from South Carolina so I understand the road trip!  I've done it once before and I have to say it was miserable for me as an adult and I have a toddler that will be along for this one, I don't think we would make it up all in one piece driving that distance!  LOL
I've been checking on flights and from last week until now prices have gone up about $40 per ticket....OUCH!  So what to do what to do???
After pricing - it ends up being cheaper to drive, even with the cost of gas.  It was $100 less than 1 airline ticket, to rent a car for a week.  I didn't average in hotel rooms, etc, but I think it is still going to average out to be about $500 less expensive to drive.  Tickets on United and Southwest were 299 and 283 per person for round trip - not bad but more than driving - it will only be my daughter and I driving up - we are following his family.  We are planning to stay an extra day.  I understand their graduating class is huge, so I probably won't ge tto see it!
You all must be East Coast, too far for us to drive.  = (  Sucking it up and spending $360 RT pp and then lodging and food this is easily a 1K trip.  Worth it though especially if he stays in GL.
Ya, flying from NH, got tickets from SW 204 r/t into midway, Didn't want to do a road trip, still a good chance of hitting a good blizzard that time of year.
That's an awesome price!  So you should be there in time for the meet and greet, huh? :) What time does your flight get in? Where are you staying again?
Jajajo, our flight gets in like 2:30 but we are hanging around till 5 cause Lil's(my daughter")her boyfriend is flying in from San Diego then we'll drive up to the Ramada, we are actually staying at the Residence Marriott.
get your ticket NOW cause they are going up daily, can you fly SW, they are the cheapest right now.
Yeah Lil's mom  I'm going to book through SW they have the cheapest fare  the best refund and change policies and two free checked bags!  That makes it all worth it....HA HA!!! :)
Motherinlawtobe where are you coming from? I'll be coming from colorado.
We are coming in from Alabama.  I went ahead and reserved a car to drive, but wow that's alot of driving and time off from work.  Either way - we will be there!  He is going to be a corpsman, so staying in Great Lakes as well.  My daughter received another letter today.  She is so ready to see him again.
