That makes sense! Congrats on your son's engagement. :) My hubby was in DEP for 2 months before leaving for BC which from what I hear is pretty quick compared to how long many have waited! I was glad to have the time together but we were both itching for him to get started!
Mama---i know!! Some of these kids are in DEP for almost a year...they could have gone thru BC 6 times by the time its done...lol  Im anxious for mine to get started also, i know he is too. Although i think hes enjoying BESS!! BC was a nightmare...uhhgggg! im so glad its over. His GF was so lost and heartbroken. I wasnt feeling too good about it myself, and then i had to try and help her thru it. Im hoping we adjust a little better before we have to deal with a deployment. I know moms/wives who's sailors are already on a ship (we PIR'd Feb. 4th)...and they all say it has been a little too quick for them, so maybe these 'holds' are a good thing...lol
Yeah, I don't mind him being in school for a while longer, for sure. Waiting for BC was hard as his old job laid him off several weeks before he was due to leave, because he was "leaving anyway" so he was not getting paid and we barely made it through until his first Navy paycheck. We were only just barely making ends meet as it was and would not have been able to pay even the few bills we had if not for my parents. So it was a huge relief when he got there and finally started getting a steady paycheck! But now I just want to be back together again and have our own place. Not being able to shop for and cook our own food and follow our own routine for 3.5 months now is finally driving me batty lol.
Speaking of paychecks...did you notice a difference in his last one? I know some who say they havent gotten paid at all.   From what ive heard ..there is some kind of budget crisis and they are cutting into the military checks. I think its a disgrace...these men are serving their country and for them to have a budget cut before welfare or the prison system really gets me going!...Everyone has been asking on some of the other groups i am on...so i expect some sort of uproar shortly. Ive been looking on RTC FB page, but non one seems to be addressing it...shame..:(
I have heard rumors about it but he has been paid as usual. It has been on time and accurate for his pay grade since the first pay day after he got to BC. As far as I'm aware though there has been no official announcement of anything, and the cost-of-living raise for this year still happened, it just wasn't as big as last year. All I have heard is rumors that the government *might* have to close for a few days and people saying "if the government closes, then no government employees get paid!" But as I understand it, that doesn't actually extend to the military. Also, any change to military pay has to come from congress and we'll know if it happens. They can't just arbitrarily change it without a vote. So my guess is if there are people who did not get paid it was simply an error in the system or there was something else that they owed money for and it got taken out of their paycheck. They should check their mypay records and contact...I can't remember the name for the office...but basically the financial office.
Yes...the same with my son. The pays that im hearing about were the deposits that were made last night and today. My son is supposed to come home on leave next weekend, but if he doesnt get paid today or at least the full amount...he wont be able to afford to come back...as he has a flight scheduled for his return to Groton. I menytioned to these ladies that maybe their SR's photos have been deducted from their BC account...but i dont think that is the problem...idk, its too much to think about...lol I left him a message on FB...hopefully he responds soon with good news...
mama--just wanted to tell you that i spoke to my son and he said he received his full pay today..thank God...lol He said they told them that none off them (submariners) would be affected by any closings or pay freezes..??? not sure how that goes, but im glad to hear i..lol

Yay! I'm glad he got his paycheck! What day it comes in depends on the bank, too. USAA pays a day early (funds are available as soon as the deposit starts the day before pay day), whereas Navy Fed and some others it's not available until the actual pay day.

Not sure how submariners would be different from the rest of the fleet, but hey I'm not complaining! :) I know a pay freeze is just when there are no raises etc...not that they don't get paid. They've already been doing this with many government jobs especially on the state level. Honestly I'd think the military would be the last to be affected by any government closings. They would not want to create a national vulnerability like that.

My son arrived in Groton on 3/5/11 and will grad BESS on 4/22/11. FYI: I don't beleive he spent any time on hold, first days were Indoc..I won't be able to make it to that Grad..I miss and love him soooo much...Wish I lived closer right now

merlin---WOW....6 months..i bet you were happy to see him...lol Im going to my sons grad. on friday and bringing him home for a week. I have only seen him 2 1/2 days out of the last 4 months. i thought that was bad until i read your post..lol I cant WAIT!! especially since he will be wearing his 'whites'..! I will be taking pictures for at last a coulple of days..lol

Oh merlin80, that was an awful long time to have to go without seeing your son,and here I am complaining. I actually was blessed and was able to attend his BC grad on 3/4/11,and although he had to leave the next day,it was great just getting to see him and wait at the airport with him, although,I will have to wait now for about 5-6 mos before I get to see him again.

So glad you got to have your son over-nite,that is just awesome.

Take care & God bless

cjasmin--my son just graduated BESS on friday. I asked him about your question and he said that 'yeah, everyone thinks that when they first get there'..lol   He said your BF will have 7/8 weeks of BESS (sub school) then  4 weeks of ATT school, then 4 weeks of TCNO school, then his Aschool begins. he will probably be in Groton for a while...lol.

He may have some leave thrown in there between schools...:)) hope that helps.
