Hi everyone,

My son leaves today Sunday, April 3 at 2 PM. I'm so upset and can't stop crying. I don't want him to go and I wish I could stop him. He is only 18 and still so very young in many ways.  I want to know how did you all deal with this because I feel so alone and sad. I look forward to the support I can get here and I hope to become an active member in this site. Thank you and God Bless you all especially our loved one's serving.

Lisa...this will be hard for the both of you BUT he has to spread his wings and wow what a way to do that by serving your country.

If you have any quesitons just ask. Does he have an activated calling card to take with him? He can take his cell to use along the way as well.

You should get his "I'm here" call late tonight early tomorrow am. It will be short and scripted sounding. Watch for the 847 area code and the id is usually payphone.

You'll get the "kid in a box" in a week or so (FedEx) followed soon by the form letter (USPS) but you should be able to get his addy from the recuiter 72 hours after he left.

Hi Jessica,

Thanks for the response and information, keep it comming. I have a million questions but I'm to confused right now to think of one. Have a great Sunday, you know I'm going to be speinding mine crying most of the day.

Lisa

do not feel alone..... i have been having times of crying for 6 months now.  i'll be really strong one day, and then the next day, just a basket case.....hallmark commercials can really set me off...  my way of dealing with the unknown and stress is to cry it out... so you go ahead and cry when you need to.  stay in touch with all the navy moms and you will always get good support.    my son is 26, but i keep thinking of all the family events he will miss, and we will miss him.  then i take a step back, and try to remember it is his life, not what i want, that matters.  i will adjust , over time...... love ya, jill
Jill, after reading your post, you reminded me of what I was like. My sailor is gone for a year now. It does get better. I promise. Take care.
My son leaves Wednesday and I understand the tears you have-please stay in touch   Patty

Oh Patty, its so hard. Today they take my son to a hotel and tomorrow I guess he's off to the Great Lakes in Illinois. He is so excited and has been working out hard to be ready. I didn't think it was going to be this hard to say goodbye. It's 8 weeks the boot camp. Stay in touch and let me know when you hear from your son, I will do the same.

Lisa

That's the same for my son. He'll be at Great Lakes on Tuesday. Sounds like they'll all be graduating together! God Bless you all!  It will be a long 8 weeks. The last 8 weeks went so fast. I hope these next ones do.

Lois

Hi Patty,

My son is leaving Monday for bootcamp so I'm sure they will graduate on the same day.  It's hard!  Good Luck!!

My son leaves on Monday, April 4th for Meps and then will go to Great Lakes on April 5th.  Ours sons will probably have the same graduation date.  It's really hard and  I dread my son leaving too.  When he went off to college it was hard but this is much harder!  I know how you feel and it's going to be hard.  Keep in touch.

Hi Jo,

My son leaves Monday to the Great Lakes too, but today he is being taken to a  hotel. My son graduated from high school last June and I wished he went to college instead of going so far.  Let me know when you hear from your son, I will do the same. I cant wait for him to come home and he hasn't even left. This is going to be a very long 8 weeks. Thanks for responding.

Lisa

Lisa...if you want  you can meet him at MEPS and watch the final swearing in. you can even meet him at the airport to see him off if you want. many families don't know this and the recuiter usually doesn't let them know
