Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please post information here about those SA's who leave for A-Schools away from Great Lakes any time on the Saturday after PIR.

I already know that my son will be going to Pensacola.  His recruiter mentioned that he will more than likely be a "grad and go" My son will be training for SAR.  Do you mind me asking what job your son has.  Are most of the SR's that go to Pensacola grad and go? Thanks

My son is going for Cryptology. I don't know if all who are going to Pensacola are leaving on Saturday--wish I was!!

My son is going for cryptology and going to PCola as well. He will graduate in july, I wonder if he will be a grad and go. Does anyone know for sure?

Only person to know for sure is your Sailor. 

 

The term grad-n-go is an old term....only people who leave the bootcamp base the same day for "A" School is some of the people staying in GL for "A"S chool. All others leave either Sat, Sun, or Monday.  (it is not the recruits choice when they leave).

My daughter will be going to Pensacola, as well. she thinks she's a grad and go, but we don't know for sure yet. she's loving meeting everyone that'll be in PCola too. I wonder if she knows your son?

My Son will be going to Pensacola to be an Aviation Tech. Does anyone know about what day they usually leave. I am hoping to have some quality time to spend with him.

amk62:  He may not be a "Grad n Go" that term is totally missuses on this board and really almost any where...this is officially from the  U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Facebook page:

 

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command Grad & Go refers to those recruits who are staying in Great Lakes and that is firm. We are in the process of correcting the RDCs who seem to believe that Grad & Go also refers to those recruits flying out of state on Saturday.

Even our transportation department no longer uses the term "Grad & Go." The confusion lies in the fact that a couple years recruits also flew out of state on Friday afternoons following the graduation ceremony. RTC stopped doing that a couple of years ago.

So, regardless if your recruit states he/she was told they are Grad & Go and are leaving Saturday, that is the incorrect term for them. They are a Saturday departure.

Other websites using the term Grad & Go for Saturday departures only add to the confusion.

So, once again, here is the official RTC definition as to what is a Grad & Go recruit: Recruits checking into A School at Great Lakes on the same day as graduation.

I have a question... Since my son is a Grad and Go and will be leaving on Saturday... Is there a restriction on the number of family members that can hang out with him at the airport before he leaves? I know my whole family is wanting to go to see him off as well as his girlfriend and her parents...

Zacksmom:  Your son is not a Grad n Go if he is leaving on Saturday, he is considered a Saturday Departer.  At Midway there was no restriction on the number, there was a family there, that had 7 people.  If they have a State ID they can get thru security.

I have another question... If my son is going to be flying out destination Pensecola, FL for "A" School, will he be flying out of O'hare or Midway????

Hello! My new Sailor is a Saturday departure (leaves GL for Midway at 1AM on 4/2/11), his flight doesn't leave until 7PM for Charleston, SC/Goose Creek.  I was very happy to read your Posts/Replies TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)!  My son will be ET Nuke/Subs as well! Just told us today after graduation!  Do you think we should get there before 5AM? I really want your opinion. Thanks!  I am from Dallas, TX area!

Sorry didn't read this until now, I had a bad migraine this weekend and didn't really get online.  I hope you got to the airport as early as you could, it's worth it!
