For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Why stay in GL for A school when we thought CT
I am a bit confused, but then we know things can chance very quick. My Grandson is in BC right now and his PIR is 5/6/11. I get to go. When he went the Navy he was going in to be in submarines working with the computers. We thought (and so did he) that he would be doing 7-8 months of A school in Gronton CT. Now he is a Grad & Go and will be staying at GL for 6 weeks of A school. Is this normal or did something happen to make this change. Thanks for any comments or information

No that is not normal, I would take a guess and say that he was either disqaulifed from the job he orginally signed for, or he was under the wrong impression as to what his job will be.

I kind of doubt that is the case. I would think that he would have told us in letters that was disqualified. I know he did not misunderstand, unless the recruiter did not tell him the truth. I guess we will find out on 5/6 I can't wait to see him. They did indicate at one point that he may have to stay at GL for a short A school before going to CT for several months of training

I am not sure his Mom (my daughter) may know that I will check with her. I know it was something to do with computers, 1 of three jobs on the submarine computers. I just wrote to him and asked him if there was a change to his job Thx

To the best of my knowledge no one who has a sub contract stays in GL for "A" School, and I have been stationed here (GL) for 4 1/2 years.

find out when I go to PIR on 5/6 Thanks again Do you like GL? I used to live very close to there in the 70's kind of anxious to see the area again.

I just talked with my daughter (SRs Mom) and his contract does say Groton CT, but that he may do a short
A school in GL. According to what we hear is going to be in A school GL for 6 weeks. Thanks again for all your inside input it helps alot Even though he is my grandson we are very very close.

Thanks Angie for the help, there was some confusion but my grandson is in fact going to A School in
Groton CT to be a Sub Sonar Tech STS correct. And right now I am very excited he finished Battle Stations
this morning is officially a Sailor.
