DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

What is your advice?

"One thing I do recommend, if it's all possible. Be sure to try and attend their graduation. You send the Navy a teenager, and the next time you see them, they have grown and matured, and you will be in utter awe. I wish I could re-meet his company commander and tell him about the most astonishing young man that they helped on his way. He's gone from the obnoxious teenager to a man that is so very proud of his leadership skills and knowledge. The Navy was the best thing for him, and it's amazing to see the transformation over the years." – Jean Cabral

Oooo I like this idea karen :) They had letter ideas... but I think you should start one! I would be excited to see everyones ideas. cc
Yes, I was in the Navy for 4 years, my boyfriend has been in for 17 years (close to retirement - yea!) and my son just graduated Navy bootcamp. So the military is a big part of my life. His tour there this time is 12 months - he's on a special team. He was there in 2004 too so this is his second tour, and we are hoping his last. He plans on getting stationed somewhere close to home for his last 2 years and then retirement. Yes, they are still out, and today is I think the 10th day. I know as soon as he gets back to base I'll get a phone call :).
It depends on their shift. I talked to him about noon to one CST and it was about 9pm in iraq
make sure he gets some canned air from supply and keeps it dedusted good, little makup blush brush works good too, hard cases for electronics aren't a bad idea,
consider invest in a decent cooling pad for the laptop to keep it from overheating..and extend the warrenty :)
where in the world do you learn this stuff? I really feel like I missed a class. Thank you for the information. He has to go back in January. He leaves Germany on Saturday, flies to Salt Lake City, then Alaska. He will be there only about 8 months. It's not worth moving.
I will be thinking of you both often, if I think of some random thing that may help I will pass it along.
Oh great women who does not sleep, thank you. I am beginning to think that there is more than one of you
noo, there is only one me :) now don't make me dig out my web cam. Actually, I was in a car accident when I was a teen..just horrible..never buy an old fiero. Anyways...aside from a small case of add, I ended up having great recall for odd things, except numbers. And no...I don't sleep much :) But you guys are great
I know this isn't the right place, but I really enjoyed the cow tonight, had to read the puns (which I thought should be outlawed) to my son. He recalled seeing the ninja cow in a movie, so I need to watch more closely what they see.
Luke had stayed in trailers for his first tour. But said the one in January is at a more primative place. He had great pictures of sandstorms. I could order things from Amazon and Treats for troops and they would deliver them free.
https://www.treatsfortroops.com/index.php This is the web page for Treats for Troops. They do charge postage, but have a speedy delivery and Luke always got these packages. Also, Cheryl's cookies did have free delivery for overseas. I will do some searching for the Amazon sites. But I got electric razors, and snacks from there.
Amazon does something with free shipping over 25 $ purchase too, not sure on the details.
