While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Anyone have a sailor who left for boot camp on May 19, 2011?
My son left for boot camp yesterday and like everyone else here I am so proud and heartbroken at the same time.
My biggest question is when will we know about PIR/Graduation? I know we don't hear from him again until week 3. I already went thru the survival guide. I'm just ready to know details. LOL A little OCD, I guess...

My son left two days before yours. I got the Kid in a Box Friday, so you should get yours early next week. The next item on the agenda is the form letter with the all important address and PIR information! I'm hoping that comes next week, but know that it could be a full 2-3 weeks after they've left. We just have to keep praying and writing letters until the addresses come. They are in good hands.

Calm is NOT the word my SR would use for me. :) It has been 29 years since I went through this with my husband (then he was my fiance) who spent 4 years in the Navy. I'm not sure, but having my son leave may be harder, LOL. The family thinks I've become obsessed by this website, but it has helped SO much! I can't imagine what I would have been like if his recruiter hadn't recommended this site. Now I know: 1 - Kid in the Box, 2 - Form letter with address & PIR info, 3 - Real Letters begin, 4 - First real phone call, 5 - I'm a sailor call, and 6 - PIR!!! Then of course, it starts all over with A-school, but for me, as long as I know the steps, each step means we're closer to seeing our sailors. If I was sitting without knowing anything, I would be a basket case. :) A lot has changed in 29 years so even my husband didn't know what I've learned here.

Thanks for listing the steps. I can't wait for that first letter and first call but PIR is what I'm living for!!! Do you know what Grad and Go means?

You'll find multiple explanations for that term. What I understand is that if your sailor stays in Great Lakes for A-school, you should expect to spend time with them all weekend, but he/she may have to spend a few hours moving from the 'boot' side to the 'A-school' side on Friday or Saturday. If they are going to another state for A-school (mine is), I should only plan on having Friday with him. They may fly out Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, but if you plan on only seeing them on Friday, you will only have a happy surprise if they stay a little longer! We are planning on spending time with him at the airport if he flies out on Saturday.

My daughter left for Bootcamp on May 18. Her recrutier told us to count 8 weeks from the Friday after she left. That would bring us to July 15. I can only pray that is right.
Part of my job is coordinating travel, I booked our hotel room the day after she left. I booked it for May 14-17. Rooms can always be cancelled at no charge. Would rather be safe than sorry!!!!
I haven't gotten the box yet but oddly excited for it to arrive.
I am still learning my way around this webiste but have found alot of valuable information.

My son arrived Greak Lakes May 19th and we got the "I'm here" phone call at almost midnight EST! That was such a huge relief to hear his voice. I don't know about this "kid in a box" . . . we have not received one as of yet. I'm anxious to know the Grad Date which I'm guessing will be July 15, but am hesitant to book a hotel or flight until I get his first letter.

Sounds as though our kids are together. I to got the call around 12:33am( approx. lol) on the 19th. My daughter had her cell phone with her at the airport so I got a few tesxts and calls bfore they arrived.
I too think their PIR shoudl be on around the 15. I did book the hotel....it doesn't cost anything up front and you can change it up until the day of check in......
What rate is your son in at? My daughter is an IS (intellegence specialist) and will got to Dam Neck VA after PIR.
