Please post information here about those SA's who leave for A-Schools away from Great Lakes any time on the Saturday after PIR.

My son's PIR was 4/29. He had to be back on base by 7:00 p.m. Friday night. He flew out Saturday morning. We did get to spend some time with him at the airport. Make sure you get a gate pass so that you can wait with your Sailor.
My SR just called me last night, and said he has to leave for A School in Connecticut right after PIR....I thought those having to leave Great Lakes were given Liberty until at least Saturday!  Could this be true?  He says we will only have about a half hour with him before he has to leave for the airport Friday...:(
I really hope he listened correctly, I have heard of this happening but NOT for a long time.

Ship 09 div 192 I got a letter from my SR yesterday and  he sounded good.  He is a grad and go and he will be leaving on Saturday the 4th of June.  He said a lot of the guys in his division are grad and goes.

The term "Grad and Go" is no longer used by Recruit Training Command.

Officially from the RTC Facebook Page: Now they are not using the term at all:

what does grad and go mean?
about an hour ago · Like ·

U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command It's an obsolete term. It used to refer to recruits who flew out of state for A School within hours of graduation. Then it referred only to those recruits staying in Great Lakes for A School. Now it doesn't mean anything.

Recruits who stay in Great Lakes for A School check into their school the same day as graduation. Those going out of state for A School will fly out the following day unless there is an issue with flight availability, then they might be delayed a day or two.

What airport do Sailors leave out of to go to A school in San Antionio?

My son said that they leave at 2am and go to different airports

O'Hare, Midway, and even Milwakee
Got a letter from my son. He is in Division 812. H said he will be leaving for Florida early Saturday morning
Go with him to the Airport even if you don't get much sleep well worth it!
I understand to get a gate pass our SR has to be with us at the ticket counter and we need State Issued ID's. I have a 16 year old...he does not have a State issued ID. Does anyone know if he can he use a school ID?
I would take the school ID and a birth certificate but you could always call one of the airline reps at one of the airports in Chicago to make sure that would be good enough.  Lets hope
