Ladies, we are going to Africa! These kids are a group of Seabees (NMCB 74 DET 11). They have been away from home since November and they have missed the holidays back home. Sooooo, we are going to give them what they have been missing. Christmas, New Years, Ground Hog, Valentines, St Patricks, April Fools, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day and Birthdays and any other holiday that we can think of. We can send them decorations for each holiday. Maybe some of the packing parties can adopt a holiday and go all out!

They live in Clu's which are connex boxes molded into rooms. They would love pillowcases so lets see about getting them a little bit of home for their rooms. They have microwaves, fridge and freezer access.  They can get most of what they need from their NEX.  Two things they would love… energy drinks and toothpaste other than Colgate! (the only brand they can get)  They say they really do not 'need' anything. They would love to have cards and letters, so lets get them cards and letters from each of the holidays that they have missed.

It is very, very hot there and it is 110 to 120 degrees. So lets try to get them some neck coolers and some freeze pops and maybe some of those hand held mist fans would be something to help ease the heat.

There are 150 with the breakdown of 130 males and 20 females.

We will be mailing June 23 thru the 28th!

We will start shipping the end of the week!!! I am excited for this group to get some morale boosters!
Hey gals... we are still short about 60 pillowcases...  lets all dust off our machines...  I know I surely need to!!
I'm pulling more fabric now--will let you know how it goes over the next two days.
I thought that I had more pillowcases made up than I do but I have 17 that I can send.  Not sure if I will have time to make any more since I am getting ready for my son to come home Saturday morning.  A friend called yesterday and wanted to know what we needed this month and she dropped off 200 freezer pops and 10 tubes (no Colgate) of toothpaste so I will send that and the 17 pcs.
Matt's Mom, Maybe I can get some of that fabric that we stored.  I am off for the summer and will have time to sew - just need fabric!  Just give me a call sometime.  I can drive over and pick it up.
Thanks Matt's Mom! I'll add yours to the count above and if you get more just let me know! Brenda, I could send you fabric but not sure it could get to you in time.

Kim, Matt's Mom and I have a stash we've collected together - it is just in her town and not mine!  I'll get some from her and try to get them to you!  Just can't promise anything right now because we live about 45 minutes from each other and her Sailor is on his way home on leave!

Brenda I will give you a call.  I have 3 boxes of the material that we cut out that day that just needs to be matched up and sewn together.  We need to plan another sewing party.
Kim I found 1 more pc that I can send so I will have 18 to mail.
Thank you!
Nancy and I are taking our sewing machines this weekend...  if there is time we will be stitching as fast as possible...

I have more matched and ready to sew. We will try to get some more.
