OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed.  Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

my son thinks all packages have to be sent air-ups.  it is so expensive!!!!!!!!!! can we send it ups-land?

Don't send anything air, it's just a waste of money as it may sit there for days before he's able to pick it up. Go to the post office and get the military flat rate box. They'll charge you $2 less than the regular rate and it'll get there just as fast. If you have to send large items that won't fit in the USPS box, then go UPS or Fed-Ex ground. The Navy uses Fed-Ex to send back all their clothes from boot camp so I'm assuming that would be the best one to use for P'cola too. Another thing to think of when he's deployed and you want to send care packages...go to the USPS website and order the "military package" and they'll send you 5 of the flat rate boxes plus a roll of tape plus customs forms........all for free!

The reduced rate for USPS flat rate Military boxes is only to APO/FPO boxes.  If sent to a regular US address (such as Sailors have at A School), even in the Military box, it costs the same as a regular flat rate box.

 

If you have a good Post Master, he/she will help you determine the cheapest way to ship items.  Sometimes it is cheaper to go with flat rate boxes and other times, it is cheaper to go with other boxes.

thank you. other moms/relatives have been a lifesaver through this process.  also, my son donated his stuff at bc, and it was goood stuff.
i am having a problem with fed-ex delivering ground packages.  instead of 2 days, we are now on 5 days.  has anyone else had this happen?  i am afraid to send any other boxes, and he wanted them before july 4th, but it is not gonna happen.  i am tempted to book a flight and take them in suitcases.  help......

That's because the packages are not delivered directly to the students in their barracks rooms, they go to the mail room. Any package does, no matter how you send it. I don't know where his specific mail room is, but he should get a notice when it arrives, then he goes to pick it up. (mail room is not the same thing as the post office on base)

 

Two days to the base, then all packages must clear basic security, then it goes to the mail room which sends out a notice, then he has to go pick it up.  USPS is slightly better as federal mail must be handled more strictly.

You can send it any way you want for Pensacola, they have normal addresses, unlike bases that have military addresses . Hint: whatever way you choose to ship, be sure to insure it, ups and the USPS has insurance for all items you ship, and get a tracking # to be able to locate it and when it was delivered.
