Well, moms, it's hit me extra hard this AM. As I write I cry. I still await my first real phone call and letter.
Although, I remind myself this is my son's "dream" to do this.
My son left for bc on June 27th. He told me on the two minute call two weeks. I guess this is my first lesson in the Navy experience... Don't plan on anything, as so many "veterans" on here will tell us.
I am SO very proud of my son, as we all are! Just to enlist to do what they each will be doing says a lot for the great persons they each are!
God bless them all!

Hey i look back on bookcamp and always think those first 2 weeks were the hardest, so you already hit a milestone! You will more then likly recieve mail this week or ealy next week. boot camp isn't forever he will get out soon and your gonna look back on it and realise how fast it truely did go
You should get a longer phone call around week 3, but it's best not to expect it and then it'll be a lovely surprise if you do. Letters will surely follow. I hope you're writing him often, it's the letters from home that keep them going.
So true chris!! I got a "need info" call from my daughter today (beginning her third week) and she said she loved getting her letters nearly every day at mail call:) so far mine are the only ones shes gotten but its early yet and i sent four the first day i got addy!!!lol I miss her terribly!! God bless our recruits and our families, this is what keeps our country ours...go navy!!!!

Hang in there.  I was a mess after my son left for bc.  I cried everyday.  He called at the end of the 3rd week.  His letters started coming after that....about once a week we got letters from him.  Once graduation rolled around and we were able to see him, I felt much better.  Now that he is in "A" school we hear from him at least once a week.

Thank you Dawn! And do you know if the SR's have mail call each day or just one day a week?
They can get letters everyday but they can only mail letters once a week.  Their letters usually get mailed on Sunday/Monday morning.  We always received our letters on Wednesdays or Thursdays.  Now that he is in "A" school, we get text messages from him and phone calls.

I understand how you feel!! My son left June 23 for bc. I got the same phone call when he got there and when the 2 weeks came I was crushed that I didn't get a call. This Thurs will be 3 weeks. Hopefully I will get a call or letters soon. We write him everyday.

When my son goes to "A" school- do you know if there is a graduation you can attend as well?

Oh, thank you! :)
Oh, hey! I am going through the same exact emotions! I am even doing a countdown for each week & what I should expect.. I am learning through the veteran N4M's that no news is good news after all! Cuz, if they call any earlier &/or when not scheduled to, it's generally not good news. So, I now have a more positive outlook on this part. :) I did receive my first letter yesterday!
I, too, am wondering about graduations for A school. I think "yes".??
I received my first real letter yesterday, Friday! Yea!!! It did take almost a week to get here in Houston. :( Monday will be three weeks in for bc. Just a 'lil info to share for my N4M's. :)
Glad to hear you got your letter!  You will rest a little easier now!

Glad you got your letter - look for the (847) area code for your 3 week phone call most the time it comes on a Thursday !

Good luck to you and him
