Can anyone tell me  if and how  it is possible for my sailor and I  to get legally married while he is in A school in meridian mississippi...we are trying to figure it out on our own but it seems we are getting no where ... the reason we do not want to wait untill he gets leave is because his orders will already be made and they will not include me as his dependent ! Any information on this and/or information on how and how quickly the process is that they process marrige paperwork would be extremely helpful.. He is trying to find out who is is supposed to notify and turn the papers in to for marriage ..

                                       Thank you ... Ginamarie

Crazy, I just gave this info to someone in another forum...

It doesn't matter what his orders say.  If you get married before his "report NLT" date, he is entitled to PCS with his dependents.  The only difference is that you will have to be reimbursed for travel expenses.  This rule is in the JFTR (Joint Fleet Travel Regulations), so if anybody at PSD gives you lip, you know where to look.

If you still want to get married before he gets his orders because you don't believe what you read on the internet (believe me, I understand), he should route a request chit through his instructors. Each "A" school has different requirements for junior sailors wanting to get married (i.e. in Groton I had to talk to the chaplain about responsibilities of being a husband...).

... and if he has unaccompanied orders?

Cite the regulation please.  I'm still searching.

Unaccompanied orders do not authorize dependent travel anyway...

Pasted into the other thread

Unaccompanied orders have been a very real concern for many new spouses.  There have been plenty of new young wives on here who married after A school when their sailor has orders to Japan.  Command sponsorship waivers are almost impossible to come by.  Therefore, marrying before the orders are issued will generally not get them sent overseas.  It may not be a hard and fast rule, but there are several couples out there today who wished they knew about timing their marriages during A school.

Got this, thank you:

JFTR, VOL 1, Chapter 5, Para. U5215

C. Dependents Acquired on or Before Effective Date of Orders. Except upon graduation from a Service academy (see par. U5222-A2), a member, who acquires a dependent on or before the effective date of PCS orders, is entitled to dependents’ travel and transportation allowances from the place where the dependent is acquired to the new PDS, up to the entitlement for travel from the old PDS to the new PDS. Such entitlement is without regard to:

1.    whether TDY is directed or performed en route, or

2.    the location of the old or new PDS.

... on leave after A school, but must be during the travel days window?

so it is possible to get married during a school!! thank yuo for this info thank you all for posting this ... one question..? what if we do have to get married on leave after he graduated. would i eventually get to go .. i know i might pay that will be ok
