Hello All! My son is leaving for boot camp on July 5th! I'm fortunate to be both a Navy Brat and a Navy Vet myself, in addition to the proud sister of a Navy Recruiter! With all of my Navy knowlege, I'm still a nervous wreck about my firstborn's departure. :O
I'm so glad to have found this very supportive site! I live about 20 minutes east of KC, wondering if there are many other N4M members close by?

Hello! My son left for boot camp on July 6th. We are in Independence. Is your son's PIR 9/1/11??
My SR's PIR is 8/26, he is in 3/278. Got our first real letter last Wed, but still no phone call. If my guesstimate is correct, they are going into Week 4 this week, so maybe a phone call will be coming SOON?!
I'm in Odessa, so not too far from you, rrjhmd. :)
D12, what is RFD?
Sara
Where are you staying in Chicago? We made reservations for the Residence Inn and are flying Southwest into Milwaukee. We hope since it is a holiday weekend that he might be able to have liberty for an extra day.
Where is your son going to A school? His job?
Jakesmom- I too am a Navy vet, grew up Navy and married Navy. I thought, at least I told myself, that I was prepared and I just knew that I had it all under control......right, I was a big mess the day he left, and a nervous wreck the 8 weeks of entire boot camp. It doesn't matter how much you think you're ready, those "mom" emotions come flooding out. It still happens now and then and my son has been out in the fleet for a year.
BTW- I'm in Lee's Summit. AND my sons PIR date was 8/27/10...I saw where your sons PIR is 8/26.
Hi. I am new to the forum. My daughter is about to be deployed in December to Diego Garcia, which is in the middle of the Indian Ocean. She will be gone a year. From what I hear communication will be very limited, so it is going to be tough. I hear it is a good assignment though. She also did very well in her schools and got a good deployment. I am from the Jefferson City area. Glad to be able to share
Molly's Adopt a Sailor did the Diego group last year. Their big request was those air fresheners that hang--said everything was musty. However, the pictures from their were gorgeous.
