hang in there! The only way to prove to others that what you have is real is to pass the test of time. Only you know what is right for you and what you want in your heart. If you guys make it, then you will have proven everyone wrong. If you dont, well then you took a chance on what you believed in and that is always the right choice to make! Either way, forget the negative comments and focus on supporting your sailor while he is gone (because he will need it), on your school and trying your best to make the relationship work. It can be and has been done :) Best of luck to you both!!
Hi Gretchen! :) I'm Emily. :)
I'm 18, and engaged to Aaron. We've been together for over 3 years now. I'm headed to college this fall also! Ahhh move in day is coming so fast!! So I know exactly what you're going through. :)
I can definitely relate to the family thing. When Aaron left for bootcamp, it was like my mom was betting on us breaking up, so when A school rolled around, she was not supportive of our relationship at all. She keeps trying to set me up with other guys. I don't think it's that she doesn't like Aaron, it's just that she thinks I'm young and wants me to date other guys... which I'm definitely not interested in doing. We started out as a summer fling and things just went from there. Now we're both completely committed, and neither one of us want to be with anyone else.
And age... is just a number. What matters is how you feel. Not to mention, if you're a lot more mature than most girls your age, the commitment thing is just normal. I know what you're saying about being terrified... I hate telling people my age that I'm engaged because they instantly judge. Luckily my roommate was supportive about it when I was up front with her about it.
Hang in there. Everything will make sense once you're in your sailor's arms, I promise. All of the tears, frustration, and lonely nights are worth it just for that one amazing hug. :)
If you need anything, please don't be afraid to message me. We're all just getting through this one day at a time. :)
It is so reassuring to hear this from someone my age!! Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this helps me. I know we can make it, I know it's not going to be easy, but I can't wait till at least boot is over
