A snipe is all Engineering rates...
everything that runs the ships. Engines, plumbing, the hull of the ship, electrical, air conditioning. Damage control , all of them are under the red stripe firemen umbrella.
A twidgett is electronic rates ....
They run everything that deals with computer systems, and I believe they maintain the computers also. They handle all the weapons that fire off the ships other then regular guns.
They are black stripes and are under the seaman umbrella.
hmmmmm, so lets see, Garret is a red shirted, brown shoed snipe?
He is an Aviation Ordinanceman
also.........found this site while searching.......
www.hazegray.org/faq/slang1.htm

Sorry, didn't see this before I commented! :)
Lucie I just love the Ordinance rates......
Some things can be very offensive, but that is the navy slang. I think they used to call it *salty* LOL
Yep, it's Salty alright! But, so are sailors! We've all heard the words, He/She swore like a Sailor!
